I'm interested to hear thoughts on this , but I'm guessing the die hards will enter no matter what.

It's the club champs in 2 weeks and generally my game has been fragile for a few months, I doubt I've broke 30pts more than 4 times this year with only one recollection of a 38.

The issue is as defending handicap champ I feel obligated to be there, but after having a lesson a few weeks back and now knowing what the issue is, I don't see it viable to enter s comp knowing at best your only going to be top 25 at best.

In the words of Python:

"[Top 25 at best? Top 25 at best!] Some of us lie awake at night, dreeeamin' of being [top 25 at best!]"
:D

You have absolutely no idea how you will play on the day but your attitude is very defeatist. Enter, the worst that can happen is you go up 0.2.

At present your handicap isn't a true reflection of how you're playing. Irrespective of whether you're better or worse, it won't reflect that unless you play and either get the 0.1's back or get a cut. PLAY!

You say you've only a recollection of one decent score (of 38) this year. So you have had a decent score - obviously not as many as you'd like - but you had one at least. Main thing though, is how will you feel if you go out the week after the champ's and happen to shoot a 38 or 40? You could! Enter. If you don't win, or even if you have a 'mare, it's not the end of the world.

Get out there and play, you've got two weeks to work on the lesson and absolutely no expectations, you might surprise yourself.

In previous years I would have said don't play but have had too many good rounds when least expecting them (and vice versa) to think that pre comp form is anything to go by.

Having said that...confidence can be very fragile and it's whether you could handle another knock to it and move on.

Why only medals????
Really don't know to be honest, prefer medals, like the thought of having a good round and one hole, lets say the 16th for example can well and truly bugger it up,...........................................oh wait just like bloody SUNDAY

Isn't that the beauty of this game? - you never know when your next good score is coming.

Yes, practice what you've learnt from your lesson but the only real way to know, is to get out there and play. And being the "Defending champion", it would be rude not to.:(

Good luck, and keep us posted. :fore:

Depends how big an issue the lesson threw up and how much work you've put in sorting it out. Only you can really decide wether the issues are big enough for you not too play.

You'll never know when form turns if you ain't playing, comps tend to focus the mind more so chances are it will turn in a comp. Once went 13 increases without a cut a season and a half ago and on the verge of a 17hc (16.4 exact at the time) and shot 80 gross less 16 for a 1.8 cut then got a 0.6 cut the week after, so on the verge of 17 and finished off 14 five days later.

At the end of the day it's just a game

I'm pretty much in the same place Baz.

12 pars on Friday in a match, played pretty crap on Sunday, knocked out of the singles Matchplay today and the Club Championships over this weekend! I've just booked a 50 minute lesson for tomorrow in the hope that the driver will find its best behaviour for the two days at the weekend. I won't pull out whatever but would like to, at least, buffer.
