How does your club manage the booking of tee times for competitions, especially at weekends? The reason for asking is that my club is considering changing the present system because it is seen as unfairly favouring members who are retired or don't work.

The computer opens in the clubhouse at 4pm on a Monday, with people allowed to obtain a ticket from 2.30pm to avoid disputes about who was there first. The competition only goes online on HDID the following morning at 9.00am, by which time all slots up to about 11.00am have gone. So members who work and would prefer to play early have zero chance of getting their preferred time slot. In the winter it is normal for all times to have gone before it goes on HDID.

We don't want to disadvantage anyone without access to a computer at home, so the idea is to either open the competition at the club and online at the same time, or perhaps at the club on a Sunday (when fewer people are at work) followed by online the next day.

If anyone is at a club where the system is seen by the majority as fair and reasonable, I would be grateful to hear. Thanks in anticipation.

sign up sheets go up on the board about a month before the comp, two weeks before the comp they are taken down and tee times allocated. on the day we have cancellations and reserves as well

we are fortunate that our comps are not oversubcribed, tbh not sure i could be a member at a club as you mention above, sounds like you have too many members to me

Use intelligentgolf, and it goes online from 8pm on the Monday 2 weeks before the competition. Can only then book in the pro shop from the Tuesday. Works really well

We don't have a booking system for monthly comps. Just rock up, sign the book in the pro shop, grab the scorecard with the corresponding number and tee off when you like.

We have the Comp open on the midnight 3 weeks before the comp - it's opened both online and on the PSI in the club

That way there is no preference to anyone and we now get no complaints

We have comps every Sat and Sun every weekend.
We are on BRS, booking for the weekend takes place on the Thursdsy night (8 days before) at 6:30pm, list is kept for people turning up prior to 6:30, at 6:30 names called out in order to book for either Sat/Sun or both, you can book yourself plus 3 max, booking can be done in clubhouse till approx 9:00pm when committee go home, BRS then goes live at 9:00am on the Friday morning.
It was done this way for 2 reasons, 1 was to encourage people in to the bar and 2, to give those who work or don't have a computer at home a fair chance.

It works well, biggest negative is, anyone not working on the Thurs can turn up early to get a good slot on the list, sometimes get the old boys sat in Clubhouse from 4pm.

Works better in Summer due to more slots, not been too many issues in the winter bar 1 or 2 weekends.

For Mon-Fri you can book 28 days in advance.

My biggest issue is that we don't have non-comp slots so members can book to play but not enter comp.

Interested to know how you deal with the computer phobes

They use the PSI but now the move to IG has made them start to use it more because all club matches including the senior matches are moving to the IG system so if a senior wants to play in a club match they need to use IG

Don't agree with how ours works...

But, our club has only just went online and for years and years and years they had been using ball in shoot. So everyone would turn up about 2 hours before their tee time (yes i know, absolutely insane). So they introduced time sheets about 2 years ago and slotted everyone in about the time they would normally tee off. Only issue is, it doesn't change, so you have a tee time for life. People wait years and years for a tee time. I don't think that is fair at all.

For the men. Computer entry in club opens up two weeks before comp. You put your name on with the time you would like eg before 8.00am, after 10.00am, between 7.00 am and 2.00pm. Can enter on your own or in a group. Tee times are then drawn by the computer the week before the comp. If you are a reserve and don't get a place at all you are guaranteed a spot in the next comp. The comps are usually oversubscribed.

We have a sheet in the locker room that goes up two weeks before as we obviously don't have the same amount of entrants as the men.

We currently have a mix for booking tee times.
Comps in the summer and weekend slots during the winter as limited daylight.

Half accessible via HDID and half via phone booking through proshop.
both live at the same time.

Generally covers those with computer/smartphone access and those without.

Three weeks before the comp you sign up online or on a notice board requesting a tee off time in a particular 1 hour slot.
7 days before the comp the draw is made, sort of at random, but typically players of similar handicaps are paired together.

Seems to work well, but our comps are not oversubscribed.

Our Pro put the sign up sheets on the notice board about two weeks before the comp, AFTER he has written in the members for the first two morning slots.
