Would you like your club at weekends to have

So can people give a plan to what golf clubs should do to try and attract a demographic of people who generally don't play the sport ?

I was wondering that as how our club does it seems to work perfectly well. We've also had a few new ladies join this year who are not OAP's and retired.

If you want to attract people who work during the week to join your club you need to have a system that allows them to play golf, social and competitive, at the weekend. Not sure what's so hard to understand about that.

And we have that system in place - people of all ages and sex can play in competitions and socially at weekends.

Do they work full time during the week? Are their partners members at your club? Are there other alternatives in the area? How do comps work at those clubs?

There are lots of reasons why people join particular clubs and often it comes down to balancing what you want against what is available and affordable in your area.I know that I'm making compromises with the clubs I'm a member of against what I'd consider the ideal.

lol, Phil go to post #59 and begin again but you're arguing with yourself this time round the loop, I'm out.

Ok I will sum up how our club work in regards comps work

Our club allow both the men and ladies section to book the tees any time they wish - any time

They have booked them for the weekend both Saturday's and Sunday's so that ladies who work during the week can play a competition at the weekend.

You will never be able to please everyone in a club - the ladies is a very active section with ladies of all ages who play during the week and also at the weekend - just like the men's section

If a lady who works wishes to join the club they are informed that they can play any day they wish. The ladies create the comps based on the demographic for the members they currently have - they attract new members.

Our club work a policy to attract everyone and not specific demographics - there is an opportunity for ladies who work to join our club and play when they wish and again they will have their say and again the ladies section will work to what the ladies want.

The ladies won't change to satisfy one specific demographic of people.

Tee bookings are for comps only - social golf within those comps days allowed if tee is free from an booking

We do not have a tee booking system for social golf - people turn up and play when the tee is not booked out.

So if the tee is booked from 6.30 until early afternoon but, say, the numbers playing the comp are all out by 11.30, how are those booked out slots filled? If people know there's a comp on they wont turn up until after the comp has gone out - so the tee could be vacant for a couple of hours.

Ours is pretty much spot on I'd say. We have weekend comps pretty much every weekend of the year (there are only one or two weekends in the year when we don't have a comp on). It's perfect, coz you can play the comp on either Saturday or Sunday and still have time for the winter or summer 4ball league matches too (which take place Sunday morning).

If you don't want to enter the comp you don't have to, but you can still go out, no problems there. The odd weekend when there isn't a comp or trophy to play for are nowhere near as good for me. We always have great fun when playing too. I love my club, it's great.

People can check with the pro shop or check HDID to see empty slots on the booked comp

Some work full time, some part time and some have partners at the club. Not sure how the alternative clubs work with the ladies section as we just weren't interested in joining anywhere else. I'd done a taster day at the club, then signed up for a beginners group for lessons and it went from there.

At ours, non-booked comp times are released on the day so it's not a problem.

Oh, and having been out twice with HID in the mens winter stablefords the pro shop is running there is no way on gods earth that I would want to be able to play in a comp on a Saturday alongside the mens comps. The two rounds took over four hours each time. I lost the will to live...........

i think my club has it nailed. Book a tee time, play in the comp if you want, dont play if you dont want to.
Women can play in the mens competitions with men at any time of the week, in addition to any women competitions. Equality (IMO) across the board.

We have two midweek comps (one on each of the courses) during the summer and then at least one at the weekend. plenty of opportunity for people to play when suits them.

One thing i never understand is, why does there have to be a differential between social and competitive? i struggle to really get into a round without a card in my hand but these competitons are always played with my mates at the club? we are still just as social.

maybe people seeing a differential is the reason why they are 'afraid' of playing competitions.

The bottom line in all of this is, choice. If you dont like how a club runs its tee bookings, DONT JOIN.

every club i have ever joined, i have fully researched their working before making the leap. A golf course (such as Homers, for example) which seems to have very limited competitions wouldnt cut it for me, but thats me. everyone has different needs.

To say a club operates wrong is frankly stupid. different is the correct word.

If the tee isn't booked you can play anytime you want

so you have to wait till the comp people get first pick.

listen its better than lee park who close the tee to anyone until all in the comp have teed off. most spots usually get filled.

back home, you can book ' any time'. a social 4 ball can go out between those in the comp.

Yes comps do take priority

When it comes to day's with no comps booked then it's just turn up and play anytime you want

We have comps every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year, so I can't click any of the options - I don't want any less!
