Competition Non Returns

Well, well. Another grim story.

Last Friday nearly everyone I'd spoken to had N/Rd in the medal.

It's not exactly a surprise. When you hit one provisional after another, and another and when you finally find one of your balls near the green and it's unplayable other than a random whack with a wedge, Golf is no fun at all.

What annoys me is that the CSS goes up crazily and suddenly those that limped round get cut....playing to handicap?

I know 95% of golfers want to get cut...but not all do, if they are honest.

I think that you make a fair point. It's about enjoyment and fairness and cost. Its expensive to lose Pro v1's in rough up to your knees and I for one was playing very well a few weeks ago, shooting mid 70's gross and now shooting at the weekend 81 nett!

It's not that I have suddenly turned into a bad player but that my normally reliable short game is useless in the the cack just feet away from the green.

I N/R'd for the first time a few weeks ago. I wasn't playing particularly well, but that wasn't the problem. It was a drawn comp, and I was drawn to play at 2pm. I turned up at 1:30 to be told there was an hour delay. That turned into an hour and a half. When I finally teed off, I quickly reaized that every one of the late tee times had been assigned to a member who had only joined in the last 18 months. Every one out of the last 5 3 balls.

By the time I got to the 9th it had taken 3 hours, it was the day that England played Italy, and I had arranged to meet my eldest to watch the game together at home. Needless to say, off I walked. Along with the other 2 in my group, and about 40 others during the afternoon. I have absolutely zero guilt about this and will be offering no apologies to anyone.

I have no plans to walk off in the future, even when playing badly, but golf does not take priority over spending time with my kids. If i'm supposed to tee off at 2, then I can legitimately make plans to meet people at 8. If I haven't finished due to circumstances outside my control, the off I go...
