I have just noticed that HDID now shoes a "c" next to active handicaps rather than an "i" next to inactive ones. I know this is something that the SGU have done for a while but is there any significance to the change in England? Is not having a "c" the same as having an "i"?

Allegedly, the i was causing people to think that their handicaps were suspended not just inactive and this has caused some to leave membership.
Not sure why myself but that's why they've changed it....

I raised this point with our handicaps lady yesterday, as we noticed it. Thought it was just for our club. Apparently, those with an inactive handicap didn't like the fact there was an i next to their name...so now it is a c to say you have an active (or competition) handicap. If there is no letter, it is inactive.

Bloody stupid if you ask me

Maybe the inactive ones will feel better with a medical sign for injured or a sombrero for just downright bandit? :D

England Union now match the way Scotland and Wales have been doing it for some time (all along perhaps).

My club is still showing i rather than c on HDID.

Does anybody know if the change happens automatically or does each club have to make the alteration?

So is mine, but I do know that the updates have been applied to our handicaps, (I helped with the update). I would think the updates will show after our first comp of the season.

I think it will be automatically done once they do an update

Yes, it should automatically change when the handicap guy does an update. I also think it is a stupid change, and have written to England Golf to say so. I stated that it could cause problems with some 'open comps' where the organisers may not know about the change, and so some banditos may enter and clean up. I have received a holding response from England Golf. Why couldn't Scotland and Wales fall in line with England, rather than the other way round? Apparently the inactives didn't like the 'i' after their name. My response would have been "tough, play 3 qualifiers."

It's a minor change or renaming of status I suspect all those involved in handicapping and running opens would be aware of the changes and also the changes to supplementary cards.

How is that any different to before the change?

Doesn't seem much point to the change though. I'd normally prefer to see exceptions highlighted/marked rather than the normal ones. Certainly not something I'd be writing to England Golf about though! Did you mention the waste of ink/world's resources that was involved as well?

Before the change inactives were marked with an 'i', and so organisers would not allow them to enter. Now they haven't got an 'i', some may creep through if organisers are not told of the changes. Unlikely I know, but it could happen.

You have actually written to England Golf about this

They must be pretty incompetent organisers if they have specified active handicaps and are unable to check on the status of entrants.

This is what I thought - about highlighting the exceptions.
But then I looked at HDID to see if the change had happened and noticed that, at least for surnames starting with same initial as me - B - there's more inactive than active (44 to 41). Surely that's not normal?
