Managed to play well in captains prize got 38 points in amidst the showers. Came in and rain got heavier and heavier and eventually find out comp is abandoned and all scores null and void. I was under the impression that the better scores would receive a cut.

OK, the comp should be abandoned if the weather prevents play but surely scores already recorded should count for handicapping...
Why shouldn't they?
I'd argue it with the powers that be, I'd want my cut.

Posted this on another thread earlier this month. Somebody at your club needs to read the rules:

"If the competition is abandoned for any valid reason, completed cards are still used for handicap purposes. CSS will be equal to SSS and any appropriate reductions will be made but no increases."

A previous club I was at operated a 'rule' that if 25% of the field completes the round the comp stands as played. Stops the moaning from those who went out before the weather closed in, and it encourages those that are frightened of a bit of drizzle to get out there.

Basically, the premise is the weather closes the course, i.e. when you can't putt on the greens or there's lightening or thick fog, course closed. Other than that, man up and get out there.

Had a similar situation last year. 9 holes (and 3 up) into a pairs matchplay, matey from clubhouse comes out in the pouring rain to tell us the course is closed. We were told a week later that the game was null and void, and we'd need to start again. Much to the delight of our competitors. Found out on the rules section here we should continue from 10th tee, but they wern't having it.

We were man enough to play the 9, deal with it!

We still won. It's ok.
