Morning all
After months (possibly even years) of saying we're due to move to v bulletin forum it's happening tomorrow morning (Thursday September 29)
I've not been given a time it's happening but there will be a small outage.
That aside the only two bits of housekeeping you need to know are...
PMs - this is the only data that won't be migrated across os if you need to keep any info that's on a PM please cut and paste it into a word doc
Logging in - (this is copied from what one of my tech guys sent me but if you have any queries post them back here and well endeavour to get them answered ASAP)
"in this forum structure (UBB) there are 2 fields, a "username" and a "login name". The username is used to display against users and the login name is used when the user logs in. In VB there is only one field which is used in both instances. The migrator by default maintains consistency between the display of the old forum and the new forum by populating this field with the username, but this means the user will have to log in using their username from now on rather than what they're used to.

As I say any questions fire away but hopefully at some time tomorrow we'll be going about our business on a better, faster forum

Thanks

I have read this half a dozen times and still can't understand it

Ditto. That's why the fella works in IT support and not editorial :)

Basically, what he's saying is that you will need to log in using your current password and the name that appears in every post you make (i.e. "Aztecs27" would be mine)

In a nutshell (I think) he is saying that currently you can have a username to log in with (a login name) and a different username that is displayed against any posts. Perhaps most users have the same name for both and if so will notice no difference. My "login" is aarmstly (don't ask why) but my username is Fyldewhite. As I understand it I will now have to login as Fyldewhite which will also display on posts.

If anyone has their login details stored (ie remembered) by their computer AND have different login/username then they will have to log in again and store the new details.

Of course, I maybe completely wrong :D :D

Ironically explaining stuff is NOT my forte and usually I do a terrible job at it!

I don't like the new forum, it's rubbish, bring back the old one. :D

There, I've managed to be the first person to moan about it. Someone's done it on every forum I've ever been on when they changed the platform. Viva la revolution!

Any chance of a stealth mode that looks like I'm working when my boss glances at my screen? The GM banner and ads really don't help me... :( :o

We should leave all the old post behind so that we can have a new "what waterproofs" post!!! :D :D
