I remember posting last year about the funniest joke at the Edinburgh festival. I thought it was rubbish. This years winner is. “ i randomly shout cauliflower and broccoli, i think i have florets”. I thought that was equally as rammel. However a woman from
A Tyrets geoup has demanded an apology for taking the mick out of people With tyrets.
I watched A league of there own last week for the first time. That Ramesh wasisname was on. He said things like “ your only doing that coz I look like a terrorist” etc. And folk found it funny. Now i am of the ilk that if one can say it others can. But it seems You cant. Last years Britains got talent was won by the worst imaginable comedian who laughed at himself, but if anyone else did it. Lordy Lordy. Whats happening to britains famous sense of humour do we have to adapt or what.

What isn’t? Katherine Ryan. Sat here with her obnoxious, talentless face chirping away on the TV while my girlfriend laughs and I’m just sat here wondering where the comedy is...

As for what is open for comedy? Anything. Absolutely anything. There is no topic I don’t think should be used for comedy. Race. Gender. Recent deaths. Anything.

I think it was Ricky Gervais who has a video out there where he talks about comedy is often about the dark side of humanity.

Tourette’s - and as with anything it’s all about who the audience is and the context it’s said in.

What one person finds funny the next may think it’s awful.

I think that’s what you are asking

Ricky Gervais talks about this a lot where people often mistake the subject of the joke with the target. The reason Romesh can joke about his race, and someone with disabilities can joke about their disability is because the target of the joke is themselves, not the race or disability.

I find the Edinburgh Fringe a degree grade jolly, with stuff designed to fox your average joe.
Give me Sarah Millican or Kathy Burke any day.:)

Always a tricky question and a lot depends on the individual, I can laugh at jokes about my own situation but I know others who are offended. However I am sure we can all agree that Mrs Browns Boy is total garbage.

Yet the viewer ratings are always decent. Nowt as queer as folk.

Kelly am sure me an you have not seen eye to eye on many subjects. But that is one of your best posts ave read. 👍

It isn't just about the audience and the context/content, its also about who delivers it. For me, Ricky Gervais is a complete turn off but others think he's the dog's do-da's. That's only natural.

As for my own humour; I love old fashioned slapstick but its also very dark at times, and not for the faint hearted. Equally, there's very few that will hear it as I recognise it is horrendously irreverent.

Millions love it , and i can certainly see the appeal and have seen a number of episodes that are hilarious- it’s even better when watched with my Irish mum or Irish Father in Law

Read a thing a few months ago re Mrs Browns boys. Apparently the Irish are embarrassed by it ? But me i thought it was original and funny but is now getting tired. The film
Was purgatory.

Millions watch Big Bang Theory as well, and that's utter trite. Only have to watch it without the laughter track to realise how miserable a programme it is. It's personal opinion at the end of the day though, that is the beauty of comedy, not everything is for everyone.

It's filmed with a live audience, no laughter track
