Money List Winner
Well its been a while! Not posted here since autumn last year but there has been a reason.
I had reached a peak, dropped my handicap to 12, playing for my club in B team matches and winning all my matches, generally loving golf.
Then my company restructured and I took voluntary redundancy, thankfully my company game me 3 months to train up other members of staff so I had some form of income for a while. To save money I decided to go cold turkey on golf at the end of August, not play, not go to the range, not go on the forum ( I did crack once in November)... I did allow myself one link, my monthly GM mag but a yea long subscription was a Christmas present so I had little choice there.
So I put the clubs away and focus on saving up some money and pretty much forgot about the game.
Then a lifeline, my company saw sense and offered me a new position, sadly not before I had moved my entire life to Cambridge (into boxes in in-laws garage) and given notice on my flat (which was promptly promised to a new tenant). I ended up with my wife living in Cambridge and me living in Hampshire! Not perfect but I have a cosy room in shared house.
With all the driving to Cambridge, winter weather, long days at work to allow me to leave at 12 on fridays (thank you flexi-time) I had no time or energy for golf, the forum lay forgotten and my clubs gathered dust.
This month saw the last of a few big annual bills that come between December and February (car tax, insurance, MOT, service). I realised I now had the will thanks to the lighter evenings, the energy thanks to money to buy food again and an itch from reading my monthly GM mag.
Tonight saw my 2nd range session this year, the first being a complete disaster where I felt like I was swinging a 6 foot sledgehammer while wearing a corset (now there is an image), to my surprise I actually started hitting the ball well without the need to spend 5 or 6 practice swings working out how to get the club head back anywhere close to square and on line.
So "Hello" again forum, I am giving up this golf dry spell, coming out of hibernation and hopefully going to play this beautiful game again.
Sadly there is no club membership so all I have is a local driving range, a par 3 in Cambridge (Cambridge lakes and a few local pay and plays in and around Eastleigh in Hampshire.
Hopefully I can remember which way round to hold the putter when I step back out onto a course again...
