Cobra's new one length iron.

As posted in another thread, same length irons have been done before in the mid '80's, and probably before that too. They were a fad then and are a fad now. Not that I've looked at the technical aspect at all but unless the manufacturer tweaks the lofts the gapping is going to be poor. Assuming same swing speed, distance comes from length of shaft and loft. By not having longer shafts for the longer irons there's going to be an almighty gap between the longest iron and the woods/hybrids, and very little gap between each iron, unless the loft is tweaked. And if they tweak the lofts to keep the gapping just imagine how upright the loft is going to be on, say, a 4 or 5 iron. It'll be like trying to hit a 1 iron.

I dare the manufacturers are aware of that but, for me, its just a sales gimmick...

well they claim a very different approach, maybe a fad maybe not but worth a look for me

One website in a review said " the long irons were a bit short" think they misunderstood the concept

I think it would take a bit of getting used to. When I put a club down behind the ball, I kind of know what it is by the shaft length. I've never understood the old 9 6 conundrum? The other day someone swapped my head covers over (yep, I use iron covers, get over it) so I pulled a 7 rather than an 8. Put it behind the ball, hmm, this is wrong, looked at the head, and swapped it for the 8. If they are all the same length, I think they would all feel wrong, for quite a while.

I would love to have a go with single length irons, love the 7 iron length and is the most reliable club in my bag off the fairway.

The only matter that would bother me is as hobbit says about loft on the lower number irons, I like to see the loft on the club at address, so that could be an issue for me.

Single length irons would be no good in the bag. At the minute the long irons go to the top of the bag, mid in the middle, short at the bottom, easy to see, remove, replace, but if they were all the same length, they would be clashing against each other a lot more than 'normal sets', which means to keep your irons looking good if you had a same length set you'd need to buy iron covers, that would be so wrong.

I think for me the issue would be at the lower end of the bag. A PW or 9 iron the same length as a 7i would be weird.

7 iron length would be good but i would want my more lofted clubs to be normal length ,i think that could work quite well.

.
I do think the real winner would have been to produce a set where no club is longer than a 7 iron but the higher lofted clubs, 8+ reduce in shaft length as normal. The problem people have, me included, is longer clubs, not shorter ones. Maybe we will see lots of half sets on ebay, 8-pw

Interesting stuff I have a mate that's 6'3/6'4 and has some back trouble. TBH I think irons the same length be a great idea for him..

Must send the link to him for a read. Tho he did folk out 600 quid last year on some new ping irons lol

Couple of simple suggestions
Cobra should release a bag that matches the same length irons - as in the floor is stepped making the club's look normal.
Secondly the actual length difference between the 5,6,7,8,9 isn't that massive in a normal set so not sure how much you would notice... I don't really pay much attention, just set up and swing. Hence occasionally using the 6 instead of the 9 ... :o

Would love to see some Trackman figures to back up the promotion.
Oi GM mag, we need data pronto and I'm more than happy to give up a day trying them 😉 I ain't wearing one of those stupid flat caps mind.
