I've had trouble with the flight of my ZL Encore since I got it,really struggling to keep it down. It's a very easy club to hit but for me it is ballooning in the air which aint ideal on a Links track is it?!

Anyhow, today I tried a Callaway RAZR fit 10.5 stiff and the flight difference was like night and day and my misses were not accentuated hooks or slices either.Way better distance too as a result of the improved flight.

Had a bit craic with the pro and he tells me that a 10.5 in Cobra is more like 14 degrees and that is why they are a) so easy to hit and b) have the rainbow/balloon flight on them.

Anyone agree with that? I had not heard of this but I have to admit looking down on the Callaway 10.5 looked like 8.5 compared to my Cobra!!

Intersting this, played a comp today with my mate who has a brand new cobra s3. I've never seen a driver achieve so much height. He is a steady 7 handicapper who is usually very straight off the tee (putting his weakness) and although this attribute was still true today, the flight on the ball was unbelievable. Massive massive height and with the slight breeze it went nowhere. His is a 9.5degree.

Chucked our cards in and I had a go off the first, I could not keep it down at all, even drilled low it ballooned.

After what has been mentioned I am going to phone him and let him know about the loft issue.

Ash!!

I encountered a similar problem with my ZL with the reg voodoo (great club) - used to go massively high and no run out. Changed to a s9 pro with stiff matrix shaft and achieve 15 yds extra carry with plenty of roll out on a much more boring flight.
Could your issue be a shaft one? If not then The aforementioned driver is a stunner and cheap ish on ebay. Not for mid/high hcps though - not very forgiving, the trade off is the workability which is good.

Dodger, I have the zl encore and do get a fairly high flight, but its not a problem for me playing softer parkland courses down south... the carry suits my game ad I like the control rather than lots of runout.

The motore f1 55 is mid launch according to fujikura. Combine that with higher loft and I guess that explains the flight. A low launch shaft might be worth a try?

I went out with my new (to me) S2 on Tuesday for the 1st time. Was really loving the way it went. My i15 has a high kickpoint shaft to help keep it down a bit, which it does. The Cobra just has a regular shaft and I was really pleased with the additional height that this gave me. Not too high, but high enough to notice a difference and distance didn't really suffer as a consequence. I did hit a couple of really high ones but I think this was more to do with me teeing the ball up a tad too high as the face of the Cobra is not quite as deep as the Ping.
I'll be having another go with it tomorrow but based on Tuesdays showing it could find it's way into the bag permanently.

I'm sure the zl is designed for high ball flight, rather like the tm burner. My amp delivers alot lower flight than my burner, both were 9.5* but I think the shaft in the amp is alot better.

Reading this tread with interest. One thing I could do with, is more hight on my drives. Which one would you guys recommend. I can get an S2 for £90 new. But would it be better to hang on a bit and get the ZL or AMP?

Any ideas would be welcome.

If you like the head of the Cobra, maybe try a different shaft ? It'll save you 300 + sheckles on the new Cally

Nope,I have now tried 3 different shafts, all designed to knock the flight down and it still goes into orbit. It isn't the shaft it appears it is the 3 wood masquerading as a driver that is the issue.

It'll not be anywhere near 300 notes either.

Callaway aside I am toying with a trip to the Craws mate as well.

Tommo takes the credit for convincing me to make the trip and it was well worth it.

I was seriously nutting the KZG today. Its been a very astute move for me and I'm delighted. I'm going back to see him in April for a 3 wood fitting!!!
