Other than the name are there any real differences? Is one just the 2012 version of this years irons? I really want some AMP cells (i'm looking for some new irons) and they were lovely when I had hit with them, unfortunately the £400+ price is a little too much but the AMP irons are going for a little over half that.

What are peoples views worth the purchase?

my mate uses slazenger clubs he has had for 15 years and he plays off 6, its what you get use to mate just buy the cheap ones

I believe you are correct the Amps are 2012 with the Cell being 2013.

As you can see from below, I have the Amp's and they are truly amazing! The only gripe is that I had to purchase a SW as it didn't come with the set....so went with Cobra trusty rusty!

Nowadays most sets don't come with a sand wedge, 4-PW is the standard, or so I believe.

I play the Cobra Amp too... visually, there doesn't seem too much difference between the Amp and the Amp Cell (apart from a little less orange!) and the specs seem quite similar. Same stock shafts, a few tweaked lofts in the lower irons. All in all, am very happy with mine at the price I got them for (£220 ish)

Go for the cheaper ones. Most manufacturers have jacked their lofts over the last few years so there will be little difference there. Plus as Dashingblade says, if they have the same stock shafts then no difference there either.

I suppose you could argue that the newer ones will have a better resell value if you are thinking of changing in the next couple of years. But if not then the cheaper ones seem like a no brainer to me as I'd challenge anyone to notice much difference at all between subsequent releases of the same irons, and certainly not over £150s worth of difference.

All I will say is the grips on last years amps are piss poor in the wet, if they have changed the grips used on the cells you may save having to have the 2012 amps regripped from new

I love my AMPS my first set of "proper" irons, wouldn't change 'em for anything at the moment. My question is what the heck is the difference between the AMP and the AMP'd ? !!! (apart from about £100 and a "D" on the branding) they look identical although I've never hit the AMP'd I can't see visually where the difference is

The AMP-D are the same club only made with slightly cheaper components, all in all great value if you are on a strict budget, although with the low price of the 2012 AMP now they are amazing value. I bought mine just before Xmas after extensive hitting of them and the cell irons, they are both superb irons and to me it came down to looks and numbers, I preferred the look of the AMP (I know a lot hate the orange) and my numbers were slighlty better, simple as. Although I do agree you will need the sand wedge, I went for the gap wedge as I had a 54 callaway wedge, great clubs.
