hi guys does anyone have any recommendations for clubs for a beginner?, been having lessons and my pro said I should stick with the clubs I have (old set given to me) until I get my swing nice and consistent, but after that does anyone have any suggestions to clubs that will get me started and hopefully keep me going for a couple of years, please bear in mind my budget is from pocket money not a salary so not anything to expensive! ;)

Cheers for the advice, ill probably get anything that I end up purchasing through my pro as he'll be able to advise, plus cos he's just really nice aswell, gave me a couple of lessons free to get me started :D

Try not to make the mistake I made by thinking if you get some better (expensive) clubs they will make you play better. They won't, I'm sure you will be able to play some great golf with the clubs you've got once you've learnt to swing properly. It is nice to have new clubs but don't count on them altering the way you play.

As someone who's been playing 2 years and only just started looking for fresh sticks, I like his idea of staying with what you have for a while.

The stuff in my signature has got me down to 16 HC in that time and other than the putter (which was kindly donated - including head cover at the time) it was 99 quid the lot, including bag

I'm not suggesting you rush out and get the junk that's in my bag, just that it's not a problem sticking with basic gear to begin with - especially as the pro has suggested the same!

cheers for the advice guys, taking into account what youve said i think its probably best to stick with what ive got for now, although i will be investing in a 7 iron as for some reason there wasnt one in the set given to me (though for some reason there was 2 pws and 2 3is )

Stick with what you have unless they are really old or hard-to-use clubs.
I started with 1970s blades and everyone said "stick with them until you get going".
Sod that. I went and got a 2nd hand set of Mizuno cavity backed irons. Best decision ever.

Aint got a clue how old they are, definetely well used though, they were given to me by the wife of an elderly man who had them as some starter clubs and no longer needed them when he got some better ones, so I assume a good few years although I doubt they go back to the 1970s! :D

Yeah, stick with whatever clubs you have until you are hitting more consistent shots. (and sounds like you've got a good pro there. there are some who would have used the opportunity to make a sale. Sounds like you would do well to stick with the pro too!)
