Enjoyable day of golf today.

My first ever Stableford comp and came back with 41 points even with 2 blobs. Got a magic 2 as well and looks like I'm going down to 19.

Found out that I won £11 by coming third in my class last week.

I found it much easier to keep my head in the right place by thinking of points rather than strokes so walking off with a par on the SI 3 was much more of a 'rush' than just putting a 4 on the card.

Does anyone else think in points, rather than strokes?

And yes, this is a passive brag thread- I don't get many so allow me this one time!

Good shooting to score that with 2 blobs - certain elements would be questioning your handicap!!

Think points in Stableford, shots in Medal....

I think SF does take the pressure off a bit, after all, you can't get less than zero and all is forgotten on the next tee. I know for hcp the same is sort of true in a medal but the 'every shot counts' pressure still does seem to have a significant effect (on me anyway).

Well played Dave, excellent golf. Was only a matter of time, after the way you played at KoKs.

I don't think in points, even in Stableford but if it works for you, then keep doing it

Well done!

I tend to play better in stableford format than medal, as mentioned I think the extra pressure is off putting. Am signed up for my first stableford comp of the year at the end of may, hoping for a nice cut too!

Well played Dave, I too find Stableford less nervy that strokeplay - even though as you say for handicap purposes it is the same. I amply demonstrated this today in our strokeplay medal getting a 0.9 cut despite an 11 (count 'em baby) on the card.

Trying to think more in medal mode and treating every shot as precious in all formats and seeing if that helps in any way. Trouble I find with stableford is that I can get "lazy" for want of a better word with my thinking and to a degree my swing and can almost toss a hole away in my mind after a loose shot especially off the tee or if I have one bad hole it can be hard to refocus. On the other side of the coin I don't want to get too hard on myself if I am having a bad swing day. For me its finding a happy medium

My opponent tried today and it didn't work for him, but do what's right for you,

Even in SF, I'm a strokes man!

I think in points. Not only is it the way handicap is calculated, but it means I can 'discard' previous scores and just concentrate on the hole I am playing. A bad score in an early hole can make the concentration disappear.

Well played - that's a very good score with two blobs and a well deserved cut

We'll done dave I know you try very hard to improve and love this game so great to hear you have got a result.

Great scoring and of course youve a right to bragg about it Dave thats a great knock  hmmmm looks like gonna have to look out for you at Hillside now your coming into some good form :)

Nice shooting with two blobs! I tend to think in terms of points too. Think it's from playing stableford for most of the winter months! On the few occasions I try not to think of points like today's first medal, I'll always do it after. My scoring though at the moment though is very erratic. I'm scoring around the 30-34 mark but with 3-4 blobs thrown in. One week will loads of 3 points and one points the next will be mainly 2's etc!
