Hi, jut joined here tonight so apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Last june I got some Taylormade Burner 2.0 irons as an insurance replacement for some stolen Mizuno clubs. They are lovely clubs and i'm really pleased how they play. They have the black finish on them which on a fe clubs is starting to come off and starting to look old. Is this normal, should I be doing something to stop it happening or should I just accept it? I think I should of been warned that this was going to happen? I've only used the clubs i'd say for about 8 rounds maximum.....

think that happens to alot of black clubs. dont sound good that its happened after just 8 rounds though!

oh and welcome to the board :)

Welcome along. Two things spring to mind. Is it just 8 rounds and no practice at the range as well? Where di you get them and are they genuine. TM is one of the most copied manufacturers and there a lot of snide sets out there. Not trying to put a downer on things but it is worth thinking about. At the end of the day, does it really matter too much about how they look as long as they are performing well for you

I have black wedges and a friend has Cobra S3 irons set with black finish. Soles showed signs of wear after one round (espeacially thanks to some stones) and the faces on my wedges soon started to go after a few to many visits to the bunker but still look good after a year of use. It's the nature of the finish. It's only a thin coating on the club heads and will show signs of wear through to the underlaying metal at any point of friction. I'd be more concerned if they are beginning to rust or if the finish is flaking of rather than fading.

To stop it the only way is not to use them but then this is true if you want plain irons to maintain a high shine over the entire head surface. They will also wear creating a more brushed metal than high gloss finish although not as instantly noticable due to the fact that the colour donesn't change as a result.

The finish on the 7i of my s56's started to come off a few months back after just over a year of use.

But I have hit a ton, and I mean an absolute ton, of balls on the range with it. 2-3 range sessions a week, min of 75 balls a time. Not all with the 7i, but a good percentage.

I ended up ordering a new 7i and just use the old one for practice now.

After just 8 rounds I'd expect a club to be damn near good as new.

My burner 2.0 irons looks not far off good as new, the most used clubs ie 7 iron and wedge have some crutches on the face and a few small scuffs where I have messed up an hit the toe etc, but in all they are not fading... Mine have probably only played ten rounds, but must have each hit a good few hundred range balls which will do more damage than a playing ball.

My hybrids were black when I got them but havn't much black left now, the dark silver underneath looks good as well though.

Thanks for your replies.

They real, I hope, as they were supplied by the company that the AA Home Insurance use! Can't remember their name of the top of my head.

I have used them on the range a few times as well s the rounds, this will have had an effect, 50-70 hits a time.

8 rounds my be wrong, I play pretty infrequently anyway, only 4 times this year and only a handfull between July-Dec last year. I guess it doesn't really matter, they still play perfectly and I did expect it to happen, but later rather than sooner!
