Into my 2nd year of membership and it's the first time I've entered this comp and my first experience of matchplay.

So far all going very well and my run to the semi's has been:

1st Round - won 9&8 - massively flattered by this result, a combination of me playing a very solid round and the other guy having the round from hell with nothing going right at all.

2nd Round - won 3&2 - straight shoot out with someone with a similar handicap, got a few let off's when my poor holes coincided with my opponents.

3rd Round - won 4&3 - played pretty solid however this guy was unfortunate as he ran into me on a day when I could do no wrong with my putter. Anything within 10 foot went in and was a very rare occasion!

Quarter Finals - won 2 up - last night had the match against one of the seniors giving him 4 shots. To be honest it was probably one of the worst rounds of golf I've played in ages however scrapped through! Almost threw it away being 3 up with 4 to play then losing the next 2 holes. Nerves almost getting the better of me!

My golf is really going to have to improve for the semi as I'm either playing a very solid senior guy who plays off 16 but very rarely leaves the cut stuff or one of the younger guys who is a rapidly improving 14 handicapper!

Some good victories in there and as you have probably found, anything can happen on the day. Just enjoy it and take it as it comes :)

We do a Ryder Cup style event too, except it's an end of season event made up of a team of members who live in the county versus a team of members from outside the county. Qualification is based on a points system from the medals and club comps through the year. Didn't make it this year sadly but will still be up there on the day cheering on my fellow "outsiders".
Played as Four Balls in the morning and singles in the afternoon, it's a great atmosphere.

My club in Wiltshire have a very successful 'Home Internationals' Scotland/England/Ireland/Wales [and the rest].
It is always closely fought and is played on the morning of the Calcutta Cup.
Always a great day with taxi's at 6pm after the rugby.
England's golf team tend to feel a bit lonely watching the rugby as Scotland can always rely on the support of Wales and Ireland.
