went for my round today and asked at the shop about prices to fit new grips... He asked me who advised me to have them change to the jumbo grips, so i told him i had had a lesson yesterday.

He asked who the lesson was with and when i told him he started giving out saying bet he was expensive blah blah blah.. Told him how much it was and he basically was saying too expensive, but i said to him i have had couple lessons with him now and both times he has sorted out my problem and my game has improved 100 %

P**sed me off because it felt like he was slating me for it!!

Why don't you ask the pro who advised you to change them to fit new ones.

The most I normally get out of my pro is........ nothing.. he doesnt communicate, you don't feel welcome in his shop, despite the fact there is not a lot in it..

yeah there is that but at the point of him saying i didnt think about it and also the place i had my lesson is alot further than my local course!!

To do the grips myself im looking at £40.. for pro shop to do it its around £54

The pro where HID worked did 10 grips (tour velvet + 2 layers of tape) for £40 so shop around a bit. Basically your club pro is narked because you are going elsewhere for your lessons. My pro is actually pretty cool. He knows where I go and why but will still give me the odd tip on the range if we're both out there.

What i cant understand is why your having lessons elsewhere, and not with your pro,to be honest, i would be a bit peeved if your taking your custom somewhere else, then go in asking him to change your grips because another pro said so,surely you look after your own club pro, they need the business !!!

He is not asking him for a favour he is paying him for a service. I could not disagree more with the idea that you should only get lessons at your home course. What if the pro is no good? What if he does not beleive in what you want to acheive? His methods could be out of date. You could have changed courses but want to stick with the same coach. This is a buyers market it is up to the coaches to sell themselves or people are free to go elsewhere.

Our clubs golf professional is not even a PGA Professional he is a European Golf Tour Federation professional which is a cheap imitation of the real thing. I would rather spend the same money that he is asking for a lesson and go an extra mile in the opposite direction and get a lesson from a PGA Pro and be made to feel welcome.

G,I dont disagree with you mate, its just at my home club i get on well with the pro and personally would not think of going elsewhere, just found it strange that if you have a club pro you wouldnt use him...

to be fair it is always going to be good if your home pro is the right one for you because they can see you most days and give quick little tips. It is only one of the things to look for though. I am sure I would get on great with all of the coaches at my course but I was already having lessons before I joined and don't want to change.

Sorry but disagree. I go to a very good quality coach because I understand what he is telling me and I've made improvements. I don't actually like the way my pro teaches and he knows that. He is providing a service and if I choose to go elsewhere that is market forces. However he is savvy to know that if he hacks me off I won't use him for the real profitable things like my shoes, jumpers, balls etc where there is the bigger margin

the reason i dont use my club pro is because i had a lesson with the guy i used last year after being pointed in his direction and after the lesson i had last year i was very pleased with his way of teaching and he improved my game hell of alot. So i wasnt willing to change my coach for yesterdays lesson just to please the pro at the course i play at the most!!

im not a member at the course i regularly play at..

Also at the course i play at they dont have the technology like they have at the place i go for my lessons, video ect ect.. Also where i go for my lessons, the bloke was voted in top 40 of todays golfer for tuition/teaching!!

My club pro is rubbish(for me), I have only had one lesson from him and all he did was blow smoke up my a££. "Alex you are so talented I don't want touch your swing, have one lesson a month with me to work on your short game and you will soon be single figures". I am alot of things but talented at our wonderful game is not one of them.

Back on topic, if the club pro in the above story was upset because the member was not taking lessons with him, was his best recose to be openly pissy about it? He is working in the lesure section of the industry and he should have gladly taken the regrip work and enjoyed the opportunity to start to create a relationship.

Have you not gone up in handicap the last couple of years? If so how can you be happy with your pro.

In an over competitive Market your pro should be welcoming of any business and build from that in an effort to get your coaching business should it become available. With the way he has conducted himself I'd even take my mars bar business to the local sweet shop or garage. I couldn't spend money with someone like that, sorry.
