if anyone remembers my post about the AGM at callander golf club,it was very interesting with a lot of politics going on and this super committee trying to get in,which they didn't.

anyway,i found out 2 days ago that the professional who has been there for many years is resigning!!!he was originally the assistant to billy kelly when he was there and he did so well.he's very high up in the pga as a teaching pro etc and does a lot of travelling all over the country doing meetings etc.

at the club itself he is very well liked and does well from lessons, club repairs and the shop itself does well.

i'm not entirely sure what's going on but it seems he has had enough of it all and has decided to call it a day.it is a shame that it's ended this way as he was wanting certain people out of the club and the said people were wanting him gone and it seems they have got their way.

for the club financially it may be a good thing as i'm sure it costs a lot to have him there.the money he gets straight off then the shares on green fee's and trolleys etc.

i'm not so sure as so many of the members love him but we'll just have to wait and see.

Club pros are essential to the wellbeing of most clubs Wull. If you have no professional, you have no decent advice, lessons, contact point for getting specific clubs/equipment etc. Your club could well suffer with no pro.

Its an easy way for a club to save money however a decent pro is worth their weight in gold.

The last time I was in the shop at Callander it was full of tat, so not so sure how well the shop did although you will know much better than me!

The club around the corner from where i live does not have a pro and never had one.

Mind you in saying that they didin't have any sort of practice facilities till last year. No shop to speak of either other than a few drinks and tee's, just a starters hut really.

They could really do with one too.

in comparison to other pro shops the equitment is poor but it appeals to the majority of golfers that callander has.but i feel the shop did well from the usual stuff like selling juice, sweets etc and obviously club repairs.thats what will be missed and i know a lot of the good players order clubs through al.

Not sure clubs realise how much they actually get out of their Pros.

The tend to do an enormous amount of work with terribly unsociable hours for very little reward. The ones that do better are those that have some sort of niche area - like repairs in an area where no-one else does them, or fitting etc.

It's not the great life that we weekend golfers see and lust for!

And having to deal with Club Committees is probably one of the worst parts of the job!

Sounds like a sad state of affairs at the club and currently going through a lot of internal turmoil. The pro must know something to take the decision to resign. It's very sad. The pros I've had at clubs I've been members at have all been very good and held in good esteem by the members and by and large offered a decent service and ran the comps well on behalf of the club and kept a good shop

If say they decide to do without a pro it could possibly cost the club money. They will need to employ staff to cover starting duties and even paying minimum wage the amount of hours that will need to be covered annually will be a hefty wage bill.
