Played a different course (Milford GC) with some mates. On reaching the 12th P3, 168y off the white. I took my 6 iron as this brings it in range. The green is guarded by few bunkers in front and rough at the back. I set up with an idea of playing an 'easy 6'. Pulled the trigger harder than expected. Ball went sky high and landed before the bunker and rolled in. I just could not explain how that happened.

As I was putting the club back into the bag, I realised, I had hit a Pitcher rather than a 6i!!!!. Happy to escape with a bogie. Had I used a 6i, I would have sailed over into the rough.

Indeed feels funny that I could do with a Pitcher what I was planning to do with a 6i. All in the head. While using an extra club or a shorter club is common, anyone get away with such a wide gap?

First time I played St Enedoc, I wanted a 6-iron for tee shot (15) but chose a 9.

Thought 'that went high', then realised what I'd done. Still made the green though which was out of range of normal 9-iron distance!

Hasn't worked on the couple of other times I've done that switch, probably because that tee shot required a 'big' shot rather than the controlled one needed on the other blunders - 1 each way!

Not sure it's all in the head? I'd say there's about a 50yd gap between PW and 6i? Picking up the 9 I could understand, but how did you manage to confuse a 6 and PW? Either way, sounds like it was a good mash off the tee. Or you thin-drill it?

Yup, my PW is usually in the 100-105 range while 6i is around 165. I have no idea how i mixed it up. I was pretty sure I was pulling a 6 out of the bag. It is interesting that my PW went that long even though I did not thin it. Went sky high, landed close to the deep bunker and rolled in. Life's small mysteries, i guess...
