Morning folks,

Well as the long list of spending continues I am away at lunch time to have a "joining meeting" at my local club. Not overly sure as to what to expect but I have to go as I don't have anyone to propose me or second me for membership.

I'm not worried or fussed too much about how the meeting goes. The location (5 mins drive from the house) suits me the most and the course in general is a good (albeit slightly short track) reintroduction to competitive golf.

Sorry for the ramblings, don't really know the point of the post!

Just go there and have a chat with them

Ask them any questions you want - it's prob more to introduce themselves and allow you to get any information you want or need

How did it go

Sorry for not replying sooner. Work and kids got in the way this afternoon.

It went well enough. I had a good show round the clubhouse as I never went in when I played there. Its a proper old fashioned club in terms of decor but everyone seemed friendly enough who made the effort to talk to me. Forfar is very much a town where everyone knows everyone so I'm the outsider until I get to the club more and get my face known.

The practice ground is decent, no yardage markers or target to aim for. So will serve purpose but its more than some courses nearby so I am happy with that. I'll still use other ranges mainly the ones in Aberdeen as I'll be working there so there on the road home. There's also two practice putting greens so I am looking forward to spending some time chipping and putting as I've not had the facility to until now.

Finally chatted with the pro for half hour or so and seemed pleasant enough too. Shop is pretty well stocked with all the basics. I bought a pack of softspikes as my practice shoes were needing them!

First comp is first weekend in April so enough time to:
A) fit a lesson or two in
B) work on my putting and chipping
C) get a few bounce games in to

I've still to try my new srixons out and also go back to try and get driver, hybrid and gap wedge sorted. So a busy 6 or so weeks until it gets serious :D

Congrats. Enjoy your new home. In my experience you sometimes have to put yourself out and be a bit forward to ensure you meet a few people and get in with some regular groups. Get involved and have fun

Sorry for being dim, but is it Forfar you're joining? If so, nice track. Always like to play it if we're up that neck of the woods. And you'll presumably have to change your name, as you'll hardly be far fae anymore

That's very true also. I was encouraged to get along to the Thursday night medals as they are busiest so better chance of meeting some of the other newbies.

I really just want to get on with Hacking round for my handicap now.I quite fancy some open comps later in the season!

Got it in one, joining Forfar. Its a nice test and was decent condition when I played it in late October.

Reason I chose Farfaeforfar was I'm not from the area originally and before working from home I was based in Aberdeen which is far enough away at 68miles.
