At what handicap level is it normally won at your club?

Following on from the 3/4 handicap debate, I had a look at past winners at my club. The winner has been, on almost every occasion, a player with a handicap of 15 or lower. Last year it was won by a 3-handicapper who had to concede 23 shots in one of the rounds.

Has yours ever been won by a 28-handicapper?

Ive managed to find the results of it at my club for the last 3 years and its been won by 10 or less all 3 times.

low guys at my place. a high handicapper may have a "lifer" of a game, but the reason they may be say 20+ hcap is they can not do this regularly, so a 5 round matchplay tournament, they may play 1 blinder and knock out a Cat1 player, but the next match lose with 7 holes to play!

I won it last year off 7, the lowest handicap in the comp.

I think this year's winner is a 24 handicapper; I lost in the first round (giving 12 shots).

I do agree a multi-round comp makes it more likely the low players will come through but in any given match either player can win - 50/50 chance if the handicaps are correct.

Historically ours has been won by the lower guys. We play full handicap but off the stones. We've got three par 3's which are over 220 off the stones so even giving a shot, lower guys tend to win these.

This year's winner is an absolute bandit of 12. One suspects that it was his main aim to win the knockout as he didn't play in a tremendous amount of qualifiers - and when he did managed to somehow stick at 11.5 despite regularly shooting 36+. He was 6 over gross when he beat me on the 16th in horrible weather off the stones. Not bitter ...

Other than the winner, everybody in the quarter's was single figures I think which would indicate that it's usually the lower guys that come through but as FD said, matches should be 50/50 if handicaps are accurate.

maybe a little bitter.

Last three winners have been off 1 (2013), 4 (2012) & 3 (2011)

Played in these and beat a few decent players off my handicap that has been coming down gradually over the same period but consistency over a number of rounds usually tells - got beat in the 3rd round by a 9 H/C this year despite playing one of my best ever rounds but had fun all the way so good to join in.

Haven't checked recent clubs as at least 1 had Strokeplay Qualifier. But 1 club you could pick 5 or 6 of the Quarter Finalists (just short of 40 tended to play). Normally the low handicappers, though occasionally a Junior or improver will do very well.

A Junior who started the season off 18 and finished off 6 won it 1 year.

I lost the Final to another `10-capper - who carried his brother to a win in the Pairs as well - a couple of years before, though carried my partner to a win in the Winter Pairs.

There was only a couple of Cat 1 players at the (Resort) club in spite having about 800 members!

last years winner was off 22, i know that as i lost in the final, hes now down to a more realistic 16 :) Think this yr the 2 finalists are both off 9 or 10, not sure who won though

we have few new golfer/improvers so our higher handicappers are stable and generally accurate.

a full spread enter

the lower handicappers generally dominate all the knockouts, with the occasional higher pairing coming through.
