I'm looking at having clubs fitted but can't decide where to go. Live near Oxford. My choices at the moment are The Belfry or Woburn. I want a decent fitting and not a couple of measurements and hit a kick board. My other choice would be Precision Golf but they charge £199 for a full bag fitting which is not taken off the cost of buying new clubs. Just can't decide if The Belfry or Woburn would offer as in depth a service as Precision Golf. Any one had experience at any of these venues?

welcome to the forum. where do you play?

do you have any idea of what clubs/brand etc you want to buy?

Woburn is excellent (but as you may expect quite expensive), the Belfry not great as it is split up by manufacturers imo.

Know quite a few people who have used Adam Bishop whos not too far from you, not been there myself but have heard decent reports

Thanks. Just has a look at website and it seems as though they are what I'm looking for. I'm pretty keen on Mizuno or Titleist but open to others if they feel nice. Really looking at tightening dispersion more than distance. Not currently a member as I now work 1 week on call 1 week off so doesn't justify spending on a membership at present. Like to go play different courses.

If you want a full monty fit, then Precision Golf is an option. Massive choice of shafts and heads, plus the extras that go with detailed fitting (swing weight, pureing, frequency matching, shaft length, etc.). The downside is the cost of the fitting, but you will definitely know either way what is right for you. They've just moved to bigger premises. When I had my fitting they used indoor Trackman (not my favourite) but their driver fitting was very good as my recent GC2 HMT fitting showed my current driver is still the best for me.

I have been to Precision (old premises), Golf Principles and Drayton Park. All of them are very good but serve (slightly) different purposes.

Drayton is a regular driving range/golf shop which sells retail brands. If you think you want something from the standard range of custom shafts, which these days is pretty lengthy, without spending more than you would spend at Direct Golf, then that is the place to go.

Precision and Golf Principles are more for a bespoke service. If you want something more exotic, clubheads made buy a samurai sword crafteman or shafts made of unobtanium, then they are great. They do the regular stuff too, but the overall cost will be higher than with Drayton or Silvermere or places like that.

Thanks everyone. Had a look at both Adam Bishop golf and Golf Principles and this is what I am looking for. A selection of clubs that I can try different shafts and heads etc. Not just a measure up and hit a kick board and told black dot pings. Both have good fitting prices.

I wouldn't. The guy hasn't even got a launch monitor. I took a driver to him to have it re gripped and he didn't even put it on straight

I've used Melvyn at Four Counties Golf over the last 3 years. We have gradually replaced / amended the clubs in my bag and I am very pleased with the results and he does have a launch monitor. Before seeing Melvyn, I had been to four other club fitters with disappointing results.

What putter do you have? I use wayne at Packington. All malvin wants to do is sell you a seemoore putter. He sold my mate one as he liked the idea of the alignment aid. He failed to tell my friend it only works if you putt out the middle of your stance (which he doesn't)
