I have a comp tomorrow. It's the Pro's weekend and we've got a stableford off full handicap.

However my tee time is 8.21 and I am rather tipsy at this particular point in proceedings.

Therefore I can't help but think my preparation is somewhat less than ideal for low scoring, and furthermore, not exactly in keeping with those on the main tour.

What's your night like pre-comp? Early to bed with no drink taken, or do you go with the flow and take tomorrow's comp as it comes?

Depends on the tee time or if I'm in the pub with Stu C. I'll usually have a bottle of wine or a few large malts. What's the point of denying yourself? It's only a hobby.

Keep drinking for as long as possible.

Sobering up with a stinking hangover kicking in half way is the worst thing ever.

If you can stay semi-bladdered til the 19th, you can get straight back on it, then worry about the consequences on Sunday.

Or Monday.

Trust me on this one...

Normal Friday night is a takeaway and a bottle of Rioja, never seems to do me much harm, although I don't tee off that early.

had my best round of the season 80 nett 68 the other week, after 2 bottles of Rioja and a few Guinnesses, and about 3 hours kip.

have also had horrendous experiences on the course having not drunk the night before, so no real rhyme or reason to it

I'm not bladderd by any stretch of the imagination but can't help thinking that Rory et al would't even risk so much as one small glass of wine before playing next day.

You might want a couple of stiff drinks before you play with Smiffy at Camberley. Probably want a few more after you have played with him.

I don't generally drink a lot, I can count on one hand the number of bottles or other that I have consumed this month. Last time at the docs he asked how much I drink, I told him between 4 and 6 bottles, he looked concerned and said per day? no I said, per month.

Once played 5 aside with a hangover many man years ago and as Homer wrote, that was messy. Also as Chrisd wrote, I like my driving license.

29 points in the end on a course which was set up with the most nightmarish pins I can ever remember.

And just to clarify, I was talking about a few sherbets, not a skinful. And certainly not the slightest issue with being fit to drive next day.

Well you're no use as a guinea pig for research purposes. I will be having a skinful next Friday. Mind you 31 points today sober means it probably won't make too much difference either way
