Ok, so in previous years our club champs (held over one weekend, 2 rounds, cut after first round) the first day is ordered by handicap order, so higher handicaps go out first. 2nd day the draw is done based on gross scores.

This year the entry appears on HDID and you can choose your tee time. Its quite unusual for ours, as most if not all comps are drawn, the only exceptions being the midweek medals.

So how does your club decide the club champs draw, drawn/chosen/ordered?

My home course plays 36 holes in one day with players going out in handicap order. Top 16 qulaify for matchplay stages.

My away course plays 18 holes, pick a tee time and play with anyone. Top 16 qualify for matchplay.

Home course all weekend comps are drawn, midweek medals you pick a tee time.

Away course all comps are pick a tee time, no drawn comps at all. Reason for this I believe quite a few players car share, loads of members travel a fair distance and poor roads.

Pros and cons for both but they seem to work.

I'm always confused by our set-up, more so it being called "Club Championship".

We have an advertised "Club Championship" but only "A" division players can enter, so, 9 handicap and under and its a scratch comp played over 36 holes. I understand that it would be a waste of time higher handicaps playing off bare feet but, its not a "Club" Championship then IMO. Also, the ladies can play in this but they have a handicap limit of 20 to enter!

We have a Phelps Bowl which is a prestigious competition played over 2 days open to all handicaps which in my eyes is more like a club championship but, then the "A" division players are in that also!

Seems a bit disjointed to me.

We do the same as this format but you shouldn't be able to choose your own tee and partners. The problem with letting the higher handicappers out first though and with respect to them it always produces 5 1/2 hour rounds which is highly frustrating to the boys in contention.... Board and serious comps should always be drawn although you can select a block time to be drawn from i.e 8.36 - 8.54 etc!! I think it actually might be an official ruling......

ours is done purely on handicaps from div 3 and 2 for both days, div 1 guys go out on gross scores on day 2.

would be great if they drew the names for the divs, then started the final day by score, leader going out last in the div.

Ours is ordered in handicap order with a max of 11, 36 holes the same day and you play in the same 3 morning and afternoon.
Entry is by the online BRS system where you pick a time but they freeze it the day before and reallocate times, is it possible this is what's happening to yours BT?

We've had 36 holes in 1 day for quite a few years. Lowest h'caps out last. Makes for a tough day and the strongest mental golfers come through.
First round usually slow, but second round much quicker
Good club day

36 holes, 1 day and 2 tee start. Handicaps 0-12 go off the 6th in the morning and 13-20 (max handicap) go off the 14th. In the afternoon, it is reversed so 0-12 go off 14 and 13-20 go off the 6th. No matchplay rounds further, it is pure Scratch and net scores

Our club play them over a weekend and are drawn but as they have a stupid matchplay element to them where the top 8 who qualify from each day play each other off the stick end I will never play one again. Last year I qualified only to try to take on the second best player at ours with no shots. Complete waste of time.

We have two courses, so play one Sat and one Sun for a 36 hole medal. On Sat it is handicap order, lowest out first. Sunday it is reversed, with the last 4 tee times reserved for the lowest gross scores from Saturday so the leaders are last in.

Last club I was at was drawn for 18 on the Saturday followed by 18 on Sunday in reverse order so the leaders go out last.
No idea what happens at APGC, because it happens on a weekend and I don't play weekends very often.....

36 holes and the top 16 aggregate scratch scores qualify to play match play. There is no handicap rule/reg/limit and if your a "B Division" guy that shoots a good 2 rounds then your in. The match play draw isn't seeded.

B Division - Same as above but you must be (I think) 12 and over, I've no idea what they do really :smirk:

Not wishing to be contentious but I don't understand these clubs that have a matchplay element. I have always understood the club champion to be the lowest gross score over the round(s) not the winner of a knockout. Is it just me??

Home course club champ is for anyone off 9 or less 36 holes on a Sunday go out highest handicap first in 3ball
Scratch medal is format

Not sure I'd be happy with 36 holes in day. I'd be knackered by the final back nine, glad our club stopped this a few years before I joined.

We do have a 32 man Matchplay comp which is open to the top scores from the overall club champs, but it doesn't form any part of the club champs themselves.

like this "our club champs (held over one weekend, 2 rounds, cut after first round) the first day is ordered by handicap order, so higher handicaps go out first. 2nd day the draw is done based on gross scores" :)

more specifically the best 15 gross plus 5 nett if there are any beyond these, are put out in reverse order at the end.

the reason is that we have a play off for a tie, so you want to at least give a reasonable chance that those involved are around!
