Played in my first ever club championships this weekend.

Went out on Saturday feeling good about my game, started fine with 2 pars, but suddenly i couldn't putt.. Nothing would go in, nothing would follow the line.. finished on Net 79, 8 shots behind the leader.. gutted.

So went out last night and had a skin full, woke up this morning and the room was spinning... went out this morning for round 2, shot a net 67 to put me tied at 3rd in my division, losing out on countback to lowest net score. 1 shot behind 2nd and 5 behind the winner.

Had a stunning round today, everything went where it should and I was hitting the ball perfectly, putting was first class - really enjoyed the whole day and I made sure my partner didn't tell me my score, nor did i work it out until the end..

Now been cut from 23.2 to 21.7 - all in all a good weekend!

Well done.

Never played in our club championship. Handicap is limited to 18 and the spaces are also limited with priority going to those with lower handicaps. Most years there has to be a balot to see which of the 18 handicappers get in.

Always had an issue with playing the Club Championships. Played every year at my old club and came 3rd 2 or 3 times but never close to winning. Handicap too high to win the scratch prize and too low to have a realistic chance of the handicap prize.
Haven't played it at the new club yet for the same reasons. We have several Cat 1 players who's bad rounds are as good as my best and plenty of "extremely consistent" 18-22'ers who always seem to win the handicap prize with some ridiculous score that I would have to shoot -3 gross to match - so that's not going to happen.....

Our Club Champs were yesterday and is a Scratch 36 holer, with a Net competition as well.

I have been playing well but off 7 didn't really give myself much chance of winning either, but found myself 5 shots clear in the scratch comp with a level par 70 and tied for the lead on Net 63. 2nd round started well with a birdie and was level par after 5 when one lapse in concentration with a 100yr wedge to the green resulted in me taking a triple bogey. From then it was between me and a playing partner which turned into more of a matchplay situation with us both chipping in, missing putts, holing putts when finally it got to the last with me 1 shot behind and with a 3footer across a sloping green to take to extra holes, cue the biggest horseshoe lip out ever. :(

Lost the gross by 1 but won the net, got a 1.2 cut to 5.7 which is my season target of 6 and that also makes 12 competitive rounds and no point 1's this year.
So i'm buzzing at the minute :)

Our club champ's were yesterday and I played in it for the first time.
There is no handicap limit I'm aware of, but as it's a scratch cup only the lower handicappers play.

I finished mid-table, which was ok, with rounds of 76 + 78. So overall on the day I played level with my handicap (-1, +1).
The winnner had rounds of 73 + 68 for a -1 finish.

I didn;t play particularly well, especially my iron play. But, and Bob would be glad to hear this, after some work with the V-Easy my putting form reappeared and I drove vrey long and straight (for the most part).
But in the end I was just glad I didn't make a tit of myself.
