It was our Championship today, I wasn't expecting much due to playing poorly at home recently. I tried to take on board advice given on here and played well on the first 9, with 3 pars and 6 bogeys for 42. My usually reliable Vokey 52 let me down on the 1oth when I thinned it and ended up with a double bogey, I parred the 11th but then another thinned wedge, 56 this time cost another double on the 12th. I parred the next three to set up a good score and after a good drive on the 16th I had a 9 iron over a bunker to the pin just behind the bunker, I decided course management was needed and took a wedge intending to just reach the front of the green well clear of the bunker, I hit it well but my line was off and it found the bunker I was trying to avoid, I took 2 to get out and so a double bogey. Onto the 17th where two good shots left me 170 to the green, I hit it well but it took a massive bounce, ran though the green and into the stream at the back so a penalty drop and another double bogey when I missed from 3 feet. I pulled my tee shot on the 18th and found a greenside bunker, another 2 to get out and another double. So frustratingly a 88 for a net 73, just one over SSS, so close to a cut.
I was still brooding when I started the afternoon round and after not having a single 3 putt in the morning promptly 4 putted the first. a teeshot right behind a tree on the 2nd, a 3 putt on the 4th and a good drive on the 5th which unfortunately bounce into a ditch meant I started really badly. A couple of pars followed but then I took 5 from just of the 8th to give my gains back, a poor chip and (2 in a bunker) I ended up with a 48 shots. I played the back 9 well despite another 3 putt and another penalty drop form a ditch and took 42 shots, giving me a gross 90 net 75, just in my buffer.
So I generally played well but gave away too many silly shots.
I though my closing 3 doubles in the morning were costly but they were nothing compared to my playing partner in the afternoon who played really well then sadly took 8 on the par 3 last for a net 73.
That's it for my golf for 2 weeks as I am off for 2 golf free weeks in Spain in the morning.
