It is getting to that time of year for most clubs so what is your preferred format (NOT what format does your club use)?

I've always preferred it over 2 days because i felt it gave the opportunity to build nerves etc, rather than a player just getting hot and rolling with it.

Then it came to this years event (last week), and guess who was leading by 1 after Saturday - ME, and guess who Sh!t the bed on sunday to finish 3rd, Me.

Been there done that Sam lol

Prefer the 2 day option as I struggle to get round 36 in a day

I'm about to play my first one, but I like the fact that it's 36 holes over two days. Doing 18 in the morning and 18 more than afternoon would be tough going even for my 30-year-old limbs. And the 'top however many into a knockout' options are irrelevant to me since I won't be anywhere near the top.

I like the way ours is structured, 18 holes medal then top 16 go into matchplay knockout played over the 2 days of the following weekend.

Yet to make the knockout stages, although we do have loads of plus, scratch and low single figure handicappers

36 over two days. Prize for the scratch winner (club champion) and a secondary prize for the best net. Cut made after 18 holes and top 40 and ties qualify and go out in reverse score order on the Sunday

I like ours, 2 best scores from 8 qualifiers then best scratch over 36 holes in one day. Our HC championship is the same on the same day. Field is a combined 80 heads

We don't have a competition called the club championship - although there is a comp that is the de facto club championship (if you see what l.mean ...). The format to me is right - 36 holes in one day. Get your clubs out, go and see who can play the best golf with only a short stop for lunch. Who can stay sharp for the whole day? None of this overnight "regrouping" or "refocussing" or whatever. Whoever wins, deserves it.

My h/c allows me to enter but given that it's scratch format, I'll be at the other end of the table fighting to see how many places l can climb off bottom place ...

Do you think the pros should finish their tournaments all in 1 day too?

two rounds over 2 weekends qualifying then into match play.

we are thinking of going to 36 over the weekend, but i think the week gap between is the better option.

For me this year anyway, as i've already won mine;)

We have 36 in one day. Not a fan personally, because to get everyone round its a two tee start meaning no one finishes on the 18th. There also isn't much of a build up to it, would be good if they could do something to improve the atmosphere.

Would much rather 36 over two days, with the leaders out last on sunday (although we have another comp with this format)

Pros and cons of both though - lot of the older guys cant do 36 in one day so dont play, then others only play golf on saturdays or sundays, not both.

I think the Pro's are a different kettle of fish. But for the club champs' - 36 in the day is my preferred choice. Helps keep the atmosphere which would be diluted if it were over two days (or more so if over two different weekends)

Downside with 36 in a day is that it eliminates a certain percentage who would struggle on the last 9 - I would..
I've done 27 recently and really wouldn't have wanted to have to do another 9.
I think the 36 over 2 days is best for most..

I like the format at our place. 36 holes with a cut overnight and the top 21 gross qualify for the next day with the leaders going out last.

I prefer two rounds in one day.
It's as much a battle of the fittest as it is a battle of who's the best golfer.

Everyone who enters should be available for both rounds, which is a problem we have being over the two days of the weekend (some people can only manage one day and as such don't play the 2nd round). Also, you know that if you've entered you are in, none of this having to book off the whole weekend but not knowing if you'll need to be available for the 2nd day in case you didn't make the cut.

For those hoping to become very good golfers, the majority of high level amateur events squeeze 2 rounds in per day (often 4 rounds in 2 days).

I have only played the 36 holes in one day format and am quite happy with that, interestingly, our men must prefer 36 holes over 2 days,as they have changed to that format this year.

36 over 2 days then the top 8 into matchplay knockout over the following 3 days.

Theres usually a decent turnout for the final with around 100 or so following the match.
