After my last club had their club champ around June, when everyone was playing more and better weather/course conditions, my new club has the 1st qual this Sat (only 2nd medal of year).

Any other clubs start your main board comp this early?

We had our 1st board comp April 27th the 2nd qualifier after April medal on 6th, winter rules were still in place.
Club champs is 9th June this year been moved from mid August as last year it clashed with hollow tinning of greens.
There seems quite a strange bliase attitude to club champs as only around 18 entered compared to 150+ for usual board comp, can only be the fact it's 36 in one day.

Good luck Saturday hope all the new shiney TM gear goes well.

Obviously don't know your course but I would agree that this seems very early, particularly after the Winter & Spring we have had.

I do, however, appreciate that the Club Diary has to be set well in advance, but if this is one of the most prestigious comps at the Club I would have thought it wiser to schedule for mid to late June. That is certainly the case at our Club.

Just to clarify its Rnd 1 this Sat, rnd 2 week after, then a finals day (with BBQ) in June. It's the fact the qualifying is so early, with the bad weather most havent played at all or only 1 rnd so far, however, same for everyone I suppose:smirk:

I would guess it depends on how your club does its club championship. My old club had 3 qualifiers which ran from April-June before the 36hole in one day at end of July.

My new (current)club does it differently with an anyone can enter 36holes over a Saturday & Sunday but there's a cut after the first round. But that's in July I think so I'd say yours on based on 36 in one day is early hope the weather holds as if its like this be nice having 36 holes in the sun

Just don't shank it into the car park off the first and you'll be fine!

I'm sure Whitecraigs will be in decent enough condition.

Some are indeed quite early while pothers are mid-late or spread across the season.

Last club had 36 hole CCs the weekend before/after their Opens - the cynic in me figures it for less stress on Greens Staff!

Ours is on the first 2 Sundays in July. It used to be 36 holes in one day but too many seniors moaned that they couldn't do 36 in a day and got it spread over EIGHT days instead. Most don't bother anyway so I don't see why it's not on one day or over a weekend.
