My question concerns last season in our golf society. We run a league and points table through the season. On captains day last season there wasn't many putting names down to play,so the club captain decided to introduce a 7 points bonus to any player turning up. U only got the 7 points if it meant something at the end of the season in the league table. Now the end of the season and the golfer of the year league finished with the bloke in 2nd technically winning it with the 7 points. Now the 1 who finished 1st before the 7 points wants the captains day 7 points not to be handed out? And a vote on it at the Agm? I can't c how u can vote out a club captains decision from the previous season? Okay, discusss to change for next season, so at the moment our Golfer of the Year has not been won!

Surely any change to competition rules needs to go through the full committee and not just the Captain...?

This. Unless that decision has gone through the proper process its void surely?

If it has gone through the proper channels already then its tough luck to the guy who isn't happy.

Taking a Golf Society far too seriously!

It's an excuse for a day out and a few bevvies with 'slightly connected' mates! Don''t let what was likely a genuine effort to encourage participation on the last outing before the Winter break make it destroy the group!

Just what I was thinking.

This is the most outrageous way to get points. Next season, you should suggest that if a player wears a particular colour each week, they get 2 extra bonus points.

Golf is game where the winner should win on how well they played, not WHEN they played...

Decide what the rules are. Write them down. Stick to them. Making them up as you go along is just asking for trouble.......which you now have to deal with and no doubt someone will end up miffed when it could all have been avoided.

This sounds like a warm up for the F1 double points system for the last race of the season. Mickey Mouse maybe but they are the rules. You can't moan afterwards no matter how much you may dislike them.

Personally, it sounds as though the Captain is just trying to encourage participation in what is supposed to be a fun event. The 2nd place person should just take it on the chin and suggest the same should not occur for next year.

It's just a work based golf society, about 30 members. I understand why he introduced the bonus points 4 turning up, it was Captains day at his own club. Hardly anyone was going before that. I can't c how changing after the event is fair on the people who went.

It's a society and really isn't about winning (unless you have big prizes on offer in which case more fool you)
