Decided to at least get out when its dry this winter to try and keep the game and body moving, especially the short game.

I hate the cold so can all you hardened Warriors recommend clothing thats very effective for wind and cold please?

Something i never even liked until about 2 year ago DV .. polo necks , never wore then never liked them . we were giving some on the 2nd job i do , they were toasty warm & i started wearing them on the course after that

My wife bought be a set of thermal trousers(aka Long Jon's)! and a thermal layer for the top. Only cost £20 or so but made a hell of a difference.

Meant I could lose a few of the bulky layers and made swinging easier.

Boxer shorts (clean ones if poss)
Socks....
Top half -
Under Armour Cold gear long sleeve turtle neck
Peter Scott Woolen Jumper
Either Galvin Green Windstopper outershell Or
Galvin Green Goretex Jacket

Troosers - Under Armour Cold gear Trousers or
Galvin Green Goretex bottoms
Fj synr-gs shoes with fj ankle socks
All weather pair of Gloves & Fj mitts.

That lot does the trick right through the winter league (Nov-March) even were I play a Clifftop Course on the East Coast of Scotland.

Much as I don't want to pump GG given the poor service I got from them over my leaking rain top. I bought one of their Insular mock neck tops last year and it was excellent to play in. Use a compression layer and any other golf top under.

I wear my running tights/leggings. If there's a branch of Decathlon anywhere near you, they do some really bargain stuff, much cheaper than Under Armour / Skins ranges.

Edit: also, and don't laugh, Aldi do really decent quality but cheap base layers as part of their sports range. I go on a running forum quite a bit and people on there swear by it!

Upgraded my Nike Lambswool jumper with a new Nike Fleece Windblocker this year...looking forward to test-driving that.

Pity I didnt pack either for St Andrews yest....bbbrrrrr

Compression top & tights are a must. Fleece socks help too, especially on the Ayrshire coast

F&£@&£/ h£)) how cold does it get in Scotland?

And not a mention of a wee drammie!

Is Galvin Green worth the money? I can't seem to get over the thought of spending at least £300 on a suit that'd rarely be used, and only in the winter...

If its mild and there's only a light dusting of snow, I wear a kilt instead of the Galv bottoms, after the roond I have a bowl of kale, plate of haggis neeps n tatties.
warms the cockles of my heart - braw! :D

Oh yeah back to the Question - Yeah in my opinion the Galv suit is worth every penny. Nothing else comes close for the winter. Dont go for the paclite version though, the pro-shell is better for winter golf as it lined.

better go, the wifes only gonna go and have a baby.

thanks guys, base layer it is with a windproof jumper or light jacket, I had an underarmour vest thinghy last year and quite frankly didnt keep me warm at all.

I need a recommended WARM base layer + light jacket/jumper and Mitts (Titleist or Mizuno seem good for the mitts), thermal long johns and no-ones mentioned a warm hat that doesnt make me look like Benny from crossroads
