Hi All

Now that the cooler weather is upon us, what sort of clothing is recommended for the colder days?

Having only recently taken up golf - in the height of summer - my sporting wardrobe consists just of lightweight trousers and polo shirts! Obviously not ideal for the cold windy days that are inevitably on their way.

What sort of clothing is normally worn in the colder seasons? I'm not talking about playing in the lashing rain but probably going to be playing a fair bit in windy and colder conditions.

Also what to look for for the 'budget conscious' golfer? Spending lots on lessons so would rather spend as little as possible on clothing right now!

Thanks

Keep it simple, trousers, golf shirt and a lightweight golf sweater.

You could pick up all of the above at Sports Direct for less than £50.

How cool are we talking?

In the height of the winter i find a ski trousers to be a god send! but obviously make sure you pick a plain pair so you meet the clubs dress code. By wearing them i dont need loads of layers on my upper body.

I just wear my waterproofs with maybe a fleece underneath. Waterproof pants are a must for me, trousers would be smothered in mud by hole 3.

A good base layer is a good starting point and not just for the depth of winter. The colder it gets, I prefer to layer up with a base layer, cotton polo jumper and a woollen jumper along with a wooly hat and mittens. The one thing I try and avoid at all cost is putting my waterproof top on as I always feel restricted

They are o.k but I think there are better products out there for the money. The lined sweaters are great. What size sweater do you take? Loads on Ebay at the moment on offer

Well I tend to get hotter than most people do, so really just looking for something that will allow me to face playing when the temps drop and wind whips up!

I take a medium in nikes polo shirts so presuming their sweaters etc are sized suitably to go over another layer, I guess a medium also, or maybe a large

Can you point me to a couple of examples of what sort of thing you'd recommend please?

thanks

Trust me when you get out there in a couple of months and the temps have dropped you will not get warm!! I will have a quick look on Ebay for you and see if I can find you a few things. Check back in about 10-15 mins

top bombing, thanks mate.

Do you normally wear a base layer under a sweater or similar, or would normal t shirts/polos suffice? Presumably base layers just retain the heat that bit more

No problem. Under a lined sweater just a polo normally unless it is Baltic then a base layer/polo/lined sweater. Any colder than that and you will need to bribe me to play:) also a beanie hat is a must I find.

The Dunlop winter trousers did me a great service and they were cheep as well, if you pop into sports direft they are easy to spot they are waterproof and lined so you only have to wear them, I use them on cold and wet days, if its dry ill just stick a set of thermals on my legs and layer up on top. Definatly worth keeping your eye on ebay as people are going to be pulling out their winter gear and possibly finding it dosent fit so will shift it on, thats providing you dont mind second hand bits and pieces.
