How does everyone deal with that scenario when a hole or two is closed? Here at Hawarden we have 2 holes which struggle with the wet weather, especially the par 3 from the elevated tee, ball sticks on the green, well it actually sinks 50% into the ground. :)

Today both holes were closed, so to get in a full 18 what I tend to do is find 2 similar holes on the course, similar in SI and par, then play 2 balls. Obviously if it's busy or I'm with a partner I don't, but on my own and to maintain my average etc, I do that. Anything wrong with it? Is there a better more accepted method?

Yeah, i would do what you've done. It isnt ideal but its as good a solution as any. Some clubs will create temporary holes but these are often little more than glorified pitch and putt holes and you feel a bit cheated!

The OCD in me will suffer when I get that Game Golf device as I won't be able to file complete rounds. :(

I must be missing the point.

It is a non-competition round, playing on your own; what is wrong with just playing the 16 holes that are open?

As above I just play 16 holes. There is still a par for those 16 so you can work out how many points you've managed out of the 32 available.

Nothing wrong with just playing 16 holes, but I don't just count my Stableford points, I count my performance over 18 holes, that's just me.

Can't you just count it over 16 holes? i know that most statto softwares work over 16 holes too.

I'll go and play somewhere else.
If the ground is that bad that two or three holes have been closed, you can almost guarantee that the rest of the course is going to be borderline...
Up until the week-end, Cooden was like this.....8th, 9th and 10th holes were closed for the best part of the week.
They opened up again last week-end but the continual rain saw the 8th go on to a temporary green.
We either played at East Brighton or West Hove, two downland courses built on chalk that drain really, really well.
And the green fees were cheap too!

Well I'm a member here and it's only happened twice in the last couple of months, and the other time was not weather related it was to do with a train fence they were putting in.

It's not a major problem, just wondered what people do in these situations.

I'm a scoresaver 2 kinda guy and that allows you to. I've tried a few of them over the last 12 months and the majority allow you to do part rounds. I've not tried Nike though.

I'd prefer to play the full course all the time, but at the end of the day, its winter, there's no comps on and you could be not getting a game at all in some parts.

so i'd take the stance that, its just a nice walk, a bit of a swing with a club and some banter with mates.

so wouldn't be that bothered.

That's true. My best friend lives in Canada and that's it now for him till April.

Played in an open at Hawarden earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

Guessing that one of the closed holes is the 18th.

Which is the other one?
