I am thinking of a club upgrade for next season. I am going to get them fitted. Do I have to play full whack for the real deal or can I get value for money from a set of clones?

I would never buy a set of clone clubs.

They will be of vastly inferior quality both in terms of manufacturing and materials.

The clones will not perform anything like the real deal. I know somebody who paid £179 for a set of snide Callaway X20's. They were utter shite, seriously they looked like they were a £49 set of donnay's or something.

Also, I have a real ethical problem with counterfeit goods. Somewhere along the line some toerag villain who probably pimps ho's and deals in scag will be profiting from this. Exactly the same thing as the Chinese DVD girls who come around. Buy their wares and you are funding people smuggling, nice!

Sorry if it seems like I am getting on my high horse but put your brain in gear and just think about it. Are the crooks forging quality gear going to give a flying fook how it performs and how good the build quality is? NO!

I got stung on e-bay, my Cleveland Halo looked like the real thing but I just couldn't hit it. The head fell off and when I took it to get repaired they told me it was fake !!

Don't do it, buy a second hand set of decent clubs from your pro or golf bidder, then get them fitted !

There is a difference between cloned clubs and fakes. Sites such as 14clubs.com sell cloned clubs that never claim to be the real thing and can represent reasonable value. I bought an Integra I-Drive which is a clone of the Callaway FT-i. Whilst I am sure that it is not quite as good as the club it is based on, the quality is fine and at £79.00 fitted it was a good way to see what square drivers can do.

I cant see the point in getting fitted up properly for a set of clubs and then buying imitations.your doing the right thing getting measured up so do the right thing and buy the real clubs as you will only regret it it the long run.Sorry to be blunt but thats the way i see it.

If you intend getting custom fitted get the real deal not the cheap imitations.

There are enough major manufacturers producing good quality clubs at a reasonable prize.
