I recently bought one of the 2012 Cleveland 588 wedges with 58 degrees of loft and 8 degrees of bounce. I have played two of the previous 588 wedges for several years and when the new model was launced I decided to complete the set. On first view it looks very impressive. I decided to go for the chrome version which provides more of a classic look and the head shape certainly gives me alot of confidence at address. The shaft is a True Temper Tour Concept Wedge Steel shaft. The shaft provides good feel although the club will mainly be used for shorter shots around the green. One slight problem I have found regards the grip. It is a Lamkin grip and despite being new it isn't the tackiest of grips I have ever used. It is also on the skinny side so this may be something that I change fairly soon. I have used the club now for a couple of weeks on both the practice ground and course and find it excellent. The feel is fantastic and it has saved me several shots shots already. The low bounce is great for nipping the ball off tight lies and with 58 degrees of loft throwing the ball up to tight pin placements is a doddle. The amount of spin that can be imparted also helps with this as the wedge has four perfectly calibrated texture lines milled between each groove. Apart from the grip the only other slight negative I have found is the amount of glare produced from the chrome clubhead during very bright conditions. However, there are satin and black pearl finishes which should counter that particular annoyance. Overall this is a wedge I highly recommend, it comes in a variety of loft and bounce options and would be a fine addition to any bag.
