Just spent 30 minutes giving my clubs a good scrub and cleaning out my bag.

How often does every one clean there clubs? i dont mean the quick scrub pre or post shot but a proper wash?

Also has anyone used these fellas that offer to clean them with a power hose and all the cleaning gear out side the club house?

Normally give mine a good clean once a month - possibly more if the weather has been bad and mud and crud has built up. Give the heads a good scrub as well as the cavity backs.

The grips get a gentle rub with bubbles only and then dried off.

The bag is emptied on less occasions where it inevitibly comes to light where "that pitch mark repairer / ball marker" went to. Along with the other 5 I have "collected"

Shoes get done weekly with a light wash, some neutral polish and once every three months a light application of dubbin.

So, clean clubs, non oily grips, tidy bag, nice shoes and I still play like a one handed blind man on a horse.

Funny old game :)

It depends how busy HID is with the other chores. I am joking before I get slughtered by everyone, (particularly our female members).

Shoes get dried naturally (stuffed with newspapers if really wet and given two to three days to dry thoroughly). Then they get a good brush down to remove dried debris and then cleaned and polished and dubbing added if necessary. My clubs get cleaned every five-six weeks and are given a going over in warm soapy water to clean both the heads and grips. If I have been playing in the rain they are taken out of the bag as soon as I get home and the grips wiped dry and they get left to stand while the bag dries out. I'll empty everything from the bag and usually stand it upside down to dry.

Waterproofs get left to hang and drip dry over the bath. If they are particularly muddy I may give them a sponge down by hand. I never put them in to wash, even on the instructions given as I'm worried about damaging the waterproofing.

I have to say I am pretty fortunate to have a feew pairs of shoes to choose from and a couple of bags and waterproofs so I am able to go out in torrential rain on Saturday and have completely dry stuff on a Sunday.. One year HID even brought up fresh EVERYTHING (bags, shoes, gloves, waterproofs etc) after 18 holes of the club championship played in horizontal rain and a force 7. I didn't ask she was just there like a beacon of light when I scraped myself of the course.

My clubs go straight in the washing up bowl after every round. Might be another superstition but like to have a clean set when I head out for a round.

I clean mine after every round or before a round depending on circumstances.

Its ironic that there is so much store set in type of kit/quality/cost/technical data/stats and yet the one thing that affects the performance of the club head with differing results yet is a fact,is neglected.

If you want golf clubs to work at their highest level of performance you should clean them all the time.

I clean mine after every time I use them, even if its just nine holes. I feel that if I have a clean set of clubs I'll play better. I also clean my driver, just to get those white lines of the bottom of the club from the tees, grips are also given a good scrub and left to air dry. The shoes less so however maybe once a month, but the bag is emptied and re-stocked on a sunday every week, tees and balls etc.

Generally every week, wash them with warm water and dry with a cloth and give the heads and shafts a wipe with the Yes! club cleaners which takes any rust off and leaves a residue that stops them rusting.

What on earth do you guys do with your clubs that necessitates cleaning them so often?

After every shot, I wipe any mud off with a towel, and then put the club back in the bag. They need washing about once a year.

The grips need doing about twice a year, and I replace them every 5 years, whether they need doing or not.

I clean my shoes, yes, probably twice a month, but the rest, hardly at all.

Mind you , it is easier to keep clubs clean if you don't have big cavities on the bag which fill with mud and grass cuttings.

" I also use the wife's makeup remover sheets to clean the grips "

Reminds me of the time we had a formal procedure at work where we had to use Johnsons Baby Oil to remove residue from a form of expanding foam which had not 'gone off' properly!

I feel some will be singing the lumberjack song any minute lol.

Wiping clubs after shots is all very well,I havent come across many golfers who do that during a round especially when they perceive it to be dry, but it doesnt always get rid of the crap in the grooves, if its not cleaned properly it builds up, hardens then affects the eficiency. Likewise not checking the back of the club for a build up of crap or cleaning grips after a time affects the feel of the club.

If irons are used frequently in the manner they were designed to be used, you will get crap an your clubs, if you hit from a tee with an iron then off mats at st andrews maybe you wouldnt notice lol.

Cleaned before every round but spend their time in between awaiting use at the range in the boot until then.

I used washing up liquid on the grips the other week and think I slightly over did it they were actually greasy which makes for an interesting backswing

Got a groovecleaner for on the course and I do give them a tickle with a towel on the course but not after every shot.

I bought a little wire brush thingy that retracts into its holder, Only cost a couple of quid but very good at cleaning the crap from the grooves. Always use it if the dirt doesn't wipe off with the towel
