Enjoyed the game last night but why are we being told by media that this is now a new era of German dominance in European football, all on the back of just one good season by German clubs.
Bayern always have been and always will be a big European club but that's where it ends. 25 point winners in their league says it all.
England had a club in the Champions league final in 7 out of the last 9 seasons with 3 winners in Liverpool/Manu/Chelsea and suddenly its a new era for the Germans? - I disagree. Dortmund will lose their best players and will fade.
For me nothings changed and the winner of next years CL will be as usual from Spain, England, maybe Italy and very possibly Bayern again. Does one club like Bayern having a good run constitute German dominance, it might be Bayern dominance but not involving any other German clubs. Bayern have won 1 in 3 finals in recent times exactly the same as ManU.
Ribery and Robben and Neuer aside I didn't see anything that great about Bayern. The amount of missed passes and midfield players running straight into tackles was quite poor last night, good physical battle but lacked quality for me.
Anyone agree?

Pretty much agree with everything you say there. Stand by for a number of the Jocks coming on soon to comment on how rubbish and overrated the EPL is. I could name them here and now before they even post :D

I think the difference is that the German clubs can now afford to buy for the best players in the world.
Breaks the Italian/Spanish/English cartel.

Well Bayern can, not sure about anyone else. 3 English clubs, 1 French club and 2 Spanish clubs can still probably outdo them financially.

I'd suggest that lahm, schweingsteger and mulled who tore England apart are pretty handy too. And thats just the getmans in the team. No english club has that many good home players. I agree that calls of dominance are seriously premature. But don't think you can discoubt any team that destroys Barcelona comfortably over two legs. Plus, as you say, Bayern been in 3 finals recently and last years they were clearly the better team too. As can happen in finals, not everyone performs to their best but I'd say write them of at your peril.

Because that's what 'the media' do!

Good for Dortmund getting through. Bayern will always challenge.

From what I saw of the game, there was an impression (maybe an assumption) that they were a bit too familiar with each other's game.

I enjoyed the match, a great watch for a neutral ,
I think the commentators said that there were 26 German players in the 2 squads compared to the 3 or 4 when Chelsea played Man Utd a few years ago,
Most German clubs have an academy scheme designed to bring on the young German players, I reckon the Germans will be a force to be reckoned with in both European and world football in the years to come

There is no doubting that the Bundasliga pishes all over the self proclaimed "Best League in The World" as does the German National Team against anything the British Isles as a whole could ever throw at them.

The Germans have the club models and set up 100% correct and they also make unbelievable good ale.

My thoughts go out to all those who travelled to London and were subjected to Carling and Fosters pishwater.

10 Englishmen in the starting 22 in that final mate.

I'm doubting it - in the last 10 years the Champions League has been won once by a German team.

Got to admit I've always preferred European football to the EPL. Comes from a half Italian background being brought up part florentine and spending many summers there. Then during my service living in Germany going to all Hannover home games I could get to. Absolutely loved watching the bundesliga games and still watch them on ESPN.

I also remember going to see La Viola in Florence as a kid loads of times thanks to family on mums side seeing Rui Costa & Batistuta play for Fiorentina are some of my earliest and best football memories, comparing that and German possession based football regularly over the EPL kick run, if in doubt row Z it type game doesn't compare. Maybe that's why I don't buy into best league in the world claims I see it more as teams willing to spend the most obscene punts of money and charge the fans a fortune as what the premier league really is. A good example is I can get a full on season ticket for Hannover in the bundesliga for less than the price it would've cost me to go to the Emirates to see Arsenal take on the mighty Blackburn Rovers when still in the premier league.

How interesting that you used to watch Fiorentina. You must have been gutted when the whole sorry episode they had all kicked off?

As a fan of the passing game, EPL football quite often frustrates me. I do, however, believe that it's the most 'competitive' league in the Northern hemisphere. Notwithstanding MUFC's big margin this year, the 4 of the top 5 teams are pretty close - and not that far off the leader/winner. This doesn't happen in the other countries.

Personally, I find the Spanish style of play the best to watch. It seems to combine the speed of the EPL with the skill level I prefer. Shame managers don't seem to have a Plan 'B' in many cases!

Good point OP, I thought it was going to be a big thumbs up post to all that is German, as the media like to do. Off the pitch they have it spot on BTW (ownership, prices etc).

Everyone is "philosophy" mad nowadays. If Klopp's team had won and he said his philosophy was to pick people with an "A" in their second name, everyone would be barking on about it as a piece of genius. The same if Heynckes had said that he smears strawberry jam on his players nackers beforehand.

This year two German teams have got to the final, fair play and very well deserved, but you can only talk about a domination once 2-3 different German clubs win in 6/7 out of the next ten finals. It's like how everyone goes on about Barcelona/Spain, lets give it a few more years before calling it a domination.

"Philosophies" are in at the moment, our club manager is one of the worst for it TBH, although apart from most of the guff he speaks, I like him. Just shut up talking about it and just get on with it.

Yep! The German model is so great; only one team with any money and, therefore, the second best team, Dortmund, have to sell their best players to Bayern.

Sounds really healthy.

Oh; and as for the match, a good contest between two teams that would be in the top six of the EPL, nothing more,

Was absolutely gutted in truth. Though the team is starting to really come together now under Vicenzo Montella. Be nice if a deal can be struck with PSG to keep Momo Sissoko after a decent loan spell and Aquilani is again looking like the player Liverpool signed and not the one they sold. Sadly though looks like Arsenal will be robbing us of Jovetic but David Pizarro just continues to play on.

Like all things the team you follow despite its troubles is always the one you stay with. Hoping to get over for a few games November time once HID has had the baby.

Nonsense, absolute tosh.

Bayern would easily challenge for the title, Dortmund would be challenging for top 4, granted that is top 6 but the tone of your posts suggests they'd struggle to be there.

I don't buy into the German love in, Dortmund were lucky to get past Malaga but both teams showed their class against 2 top Spanish outfits.

Bayern have been kicking around the top of the CL for years, consecutive finals and realistically they should have seen Chelsea off last year but let pressure get to them.

Bayern are a class act and easily in the top 3 of Europes best sides currently.

I think the Bundesliga is the best run league in Europe. I think Bayern have always been a top club and think Dortmund could be a contender for a few years providing they replace the loss of their players this summer with decent buys. I happen to think the English teams will be back in contention next year and fancy United and Chelsea to both go a long way. I also think that the so called best side (Barcelona) is coming to the end of the lifespan of many players and will perhaps not be the force to be reckoned with for a while. Same with Madrid. All in all I think it will be a very open CL next season

Where have I said they would struggle? Obviously Bayern would be challenging for the title but they would not be walking away with it as some seem to believe.

If Dortmund continued to lose their best players they might find it difficult to continue to challenge at their present level.
