My brother talked me into trying circuits today. In his text to remind me he said it would be "a bit of craic". Being a stranger to exercise I said ok as I could really do with a bit of weight off.

Session was 10 different exercises. 12 reps in a minute for 5 minutes. If you finished 12 before the minute was up you got to rest until the next minute started. With warm up and cool down it was about an hour in total.

I am in so much pain this evening. Could barely change gear on the way home. Even lifting a cup of tea is a chore. I still signed up for the 10 week course although will miss the next 2 due to prior commitments. I've been told it get easier.

Anyone else try this type of thing having done very little before?

My daughter and I have recently started this type of thing as well. Except ours is just the two of us and not a class.
We do a bit of running as a warm up and then three circuits of 4 exercises with 10 reps min. of each.
Have to agree it can be tough at the beginning having done some this morning my arms are sore just trying to type, but it does get easier, just look as it as in investment in yourself.

Did am 'aerobics' session many years ago one evening, after thinking myself reasonably fit with regular competitive Tennis.

Had to stop after 45 mins as starting to see stars.

One of the exercises was press-ups with fingers pointing inwards. Press-ups weren't a problem as I used to do 60-80 each morning, but not this (triceps) style. Couldn't tie my tie on Day 1 - left arm stuck at navel height. Day 2 was worse. A bidet would have been very helpful! on Day 2!

Moral is build up easy! Exercise can actually be dangerous if too much done too soon!

I used to train quite a bit when I was younger and you knew you had done a good leg session when you came to walk down the three steps to the pavement, your legs would give way under your own weight.

The key to resistance exercise where you will fatigue your muscles is rest and plenty of it. Basically do not start to train a body part that still aches after training until it has stopped aching and eat the right foods and supplements to aid recovery.

Circuits is a massive part of the martial arts training I do as it keeps the heart rate up, and i love weighted circuits the most.

Just make sure you stretch properly and don't over do anything on rest days.

So glad I have 2 weeks of rest then ;). Legs aren't so bad but we only did weighted lunges and squats. the other 8 were upper body. Left tricept feels like it might be about to pop today.

Yup, do circuit sessions twice a week at work, the instructor is an ex marine, he certainly knows how to push you.
All I can say is make sure you stretch out properly both before and after the session.
It will get easier and will certainly help you lose a few pounds and become stronger and fitter.
