Hi all,

Those of you that remember my intro post 3 months or so back will remember that I am fairly new to golf and don't get to play as often as I would like so progress has been relatively slow.

I am pleased to report that I broke 100 today!!!

Carded a 94 but wasn't sure on a couple of possible local OOB's so there may have been a need to add a couple more penalties. Even then still comfortably under 100 so very happy indeed!

My long game was fairly awful but only 35 putts so happy with that. The good thing is (I think it is anyway) is that I didn't feel I played that well and was very surprised when adding it up after. I hope this is a breakthrough as I feel that I can play better than I did today.

Was great to be out as it was also my first round in ages and managed to play in just a polo shirt all the way round with the sun on my back!

Thanks everyone, really happy with how it went (although felt I could have played better!)

I should have added that the course I played was par and sss of 68 so not quite as impressive as possibly it sounds but still a milestone I think.

My short-term aim is to consistently break 100 but I realise it may go up and down to begin with. 2009 will be my first full year in golf so hoping to play more and make some real progress.

Jonesuk....Well done but word of warning ,,dont always feel that you should have done better....just go with it and take it and aim higher next time,be it your putting or approach shots or whatever just relax and go with it.
If it doesn't work then at least laugh...it's not the end of the world!
Good scoring...wish you well!!! :p

Well done, breaking 100 is really a big milestone, as has been said, the next one is the 90 I hope you manage this within the same timescale as you managed the 100 barrier, hard but not beyond you. Well done.

I'd like to join the others in saying well done. :D
Welcome to frustration, because no matter how good the score is, it can always be bettered
Golf is a journey you'll never finish, just enjoy the ride.

It's funny this game, no matter how well you play, no matter what level you play at, even when you've scored your lowest score, you always think you could have done better. Thats why we keep coming back for more. (even when we play pi$h)

Well done.

I'll agree with Tommo and Bobmac. It's a bastard of a game. Well done for breaking 100, pal. But remember that when you break 90, your next round might be 102!

That's awesome Jonesey - well done. but do listen to the good advice and enjoy it. We are all guilty of moaning that we could have done better. Enjoy the moment and keep coming back and inproving!

Well done, well done. I find it helps to ignore the card all the way round. I usually tot my up in the club house afterwards!

Well done m8. Broke 100 for the first time late last year so I can still remember the feeling.

Big ole grin on your face I bet :D

I can only confirm what the others are saying. Shot a string of mid 90 scores then a string of 100+ scores. Annoying as hell.

Shot a 92 today and was really chuffed too, as I shot a 6 on the par 4 1st and an 8 on the par 4 2nd. Needless to say things got a lot better :)

and yes I felt I could have done better. Came off the 19th really pleased with myself but still had that nagging feeling "If only I'd done better on 1 or 2 I'd have broken 90"

Guess there's no pleasing us golfers

Thanks everyone, will keep you posted on how I get on in the future. Hopefully the 90 barrier won't be too long away if I can get out more often. As I mentioned, primarily aiming to keep under 100 to start with but realise that it will go up and down.

Nice one Jones, where abouts are you in N.London?

I've played Trent Park and Whitewebbs around there.

I live further in to London so have to travel out for golf courses. I have played Trent Park once or twice, thought quite good for the price but was really wet when i played. Friday's score was at Stanmore Golf Club in North-West London. Not the longest but was in good condition for this time of year I think and members and staff were really friendly. Will be going back as an enjoyable course and not too far away.

Whitewebbs is on my list to play as I have heard it is a good course for beginners/high-handicappers.
