Guys and Gals,

Left the Army earlier this year and now joined the ranks of civi street.

Just being curious, but when (if at all) would you be expecting to be paid your Christmas/Annual bonus.

Thanks in advance

Its a luxury that not many people get as far as I know :D

In an answer to your question Steve, don't expect one at all ever. That way you cant be let down or not get money you were expecting etc.

You ever seen National lampoons Christmas vacation?

The 13th cheque eh? Not many places do this. You will need to speak to your HR department to see if anything is coming your way. Lots of companies deliberately shied away from paying this around Christmas to stop staff turnover in the new year. Ours was paid in March but changed to quarterly paid a month in arrears.

If we do get one (didn't last year) it's in the final paypacket which is just before xmas usually.
We've (my employer) had a record year this year, times are booming for us but I'm still not holding my breath.

At our place we get a "holiday" bonus which is an extra week pay in June and at Xmas. It will be in the next months pay so December 20th.

My company has 8 employees... was speaking to one of them yesterday (warehouse manager) and he told me that one of the warehouse guys has said he won't be happy if he doesn't get a Christmas bonus this year.

Not that I'm against giving Christmas bonuses... but I don't think anyone should automatically *expect* them - should they? To be fair, the guy in question has done well this year and worked really hard - but is a Christmas bonus supposed to be paid based on performance? Or is it more just a 'gift' from the company?

If it's not performance related, then surely all staff members should receive the same, right? Perhaps with some modifier in there for how long they've been at the company?

We get a few vouchers at Christmas and that is it, any bonus (and I cannot remember the last time I saw one) is paid at the end of the financial year.

I'm now a contractor and I have been told I get what can only be described as an "anti-bonus". Two weeks enforced leave at Christmas with not a dime in pay...

Fantastic.

It used to cheese me off that I had to keep leave for the Christmas shut down and then still have to be on call when I was off on 'annual leave'

I work for a big company and we get a profit share, you get X amount of £'s per £1,000 you have earnt in that year, so if you have worked quite a bit of over time you get more money. You also get a percentage deducted if you have had any days off.

Think I got around £200 last year but a few workmates that work quite a lot of overtime were getting around £500.

It won't be as much this year as we haven't been as busy but we should still get something.
