Hi folks, am sure this has been asked before but I cant find. Senario- ball from drive is really unplayable- however if you tried to,play it with a driver you would be standing on a tractor track which local rules deems relief. Is this legal. As in this instance you would not use the driver for the 2nd shot from this lie

Doesn't seem like it!

You have to show that it is a realistic shot in order to be able to claim relief. So the intention to play it with a Driver would almost certainly be deemed 'unreasonable'.

However, The Driver can be used to measure the (up to) 2 Club Lengths relief that you get for the Drop as one of the options of the Ball Unplayable rule (R28).

Foxholer your 2nd paragraph is the answer to my question. Understand the driver being used in 2club length drop but it's the use of the driver to gain relief when you would not have used that club for the shot.

The answer to your question lies in the wording of (b) in the exception to relief under rule 24-2.

The stance, swing etc and by implication club being used, have to be reasonable.
