So i went to the range today, hit my bucket of balls and went and hit the short game area. Wedge play was OK, hitting it too far though, but thats another thing..

Anyway, started playing close to the green with my 7 iron and worked on my 15-20ft chipping over the fringe, which got me thinking! how many chips out of 100 would you expect to hole from 15-20ft, nice lie, nothing really to go over, but you wouldn't putt from there. you can use a wedge if you want, a hybrid a 7 iron whatever... but how many out of 100 would go in..

I would like to say 1 in 10 for me. whether that's true or not i don't know, prob hit about 50 today and i holed at least 5..

Not many really.
Take into account that in real play you'll get a maximun of 18 chances per round and they'll be 10-15 minutes apart on differing ground/lies etc.
On the practice ground, with the ability to adjust I'd expect more.

In practice enough to think I can run away and join the tour...

On the course with only one opportunity is another story :(

the issue with 100 is that you will eventually get a 'shot' going and there will be a huge difference between the first 10 and the last 10.

On the practice ground I'd expect to hole a few, no pressure, same place every time & picking a good lie for myself maybe 98 or 99? reality I'd guess something around 1 in 10!

I'd hit about 30 and hole 1 or 2 Max in practice and 0 playing a round. Easily the worst area of my game id be more than happy with down in 2.

Less than 10 on the practice area. On the course I aim to be able to chip then one putt from that range.

Out of interest, from what range do you expect that you can play your your approach then one putt? For me its probably 30yd range which is pretty poor.

From the setting you describe I'd fancy myself for a few ie less than 10 but more than 3? It would depend on how long it took to settle and get the feel! I would fancy on getting a lot close though for an easy tap in or one putt which on the course would be more important.
