i'm heading to Chester races for my stag do at the beginning of June, there will be 8 of us altogether to was hoping to find a nice relaxed course over that way, just a nice 9 holer but something a bit bigger than a par 3 course.
Skills range from 10 handicapper up to a couple of hackers so can anyone recommend something to suit? It will be a friday afternoon if that makes a difference?
I have googled the area but all have either no reviews or very old reviews.

Sandfield Golf Course is the one to go to IMO opinion mate
for a municipal it is brilliantly kept after and offers a nice variety of holes.

off the golf topic, you going on the 11th to the races?
i'm going for my birthday on that day!

yes going on the 11th, never been before but heard its a great day out!!

No worries boss - if you're ever that way again and you fancy a good course try Vicars Cross, lovely course.

it's a brill day out mate, we always head down a bit early, hit a pub and then walk to the track.
we're heading out after too cause England are on so will be a messy one!

Thanks mate, hope you enjoy your stag do!

yeah its all lucky timing to be honest, were staying in town so probably a big brekkie and a few pints before, then heading out after the races too, hopefully for a curry or smokehouse (if your local for recommendations again) :-) then out for the footy and whatever else may happen!!!!

get it booked now mate, saves queueing etc.
Its busy there at the best of times.

I'm not massively aware of pubs etc in Chester so couldn't tell ya where to watch the football.
We go the same pub every year by the river and they serve some great beers called the Old Harkers Arms but it's on the way from the train station so unless you're in the Premier Inn right next to it you won't be near it!

Another vote for Sandfield! Was the first course I ever played a round on back in 2014 and really helped me get into golf. Very easy-going place and a good fun 9 holes, would love to go back and play it sometime!

Also if you're going to Chester races, look out for the jockey Franny Norton. I remember he cleaned up when I went there last time and he has a good record there.

Yeah the Old Harkers arms is a great wee pub. There's also a good pub called the Architect near the race course but I can't remember if it has sports on. Nice to sit outside at if the weather is decent though!

Another shout for sandfields. Will be perfect for what you want. 9 hole privately owned course but run like a muni (turn up pay and play).

Full driving range, good 9 holer and a small short game area.

I learnt to play there and not been back for a few years but the greens were always outstanding, better than some private clubs.

Cheers very much guys, looks ideal, although the stepfather-in-law to be has sent me a message saying he's never hit a ball in his life so he might be restricted to the driving range and a cup of tea!!!!

Not sure about golf courses but Chester will be rammed, try book in for a meal and then head to any of the bars there's a fair few to go to.
