.....for nothing

so been having problems with my skycaddie sg5 turning off mid round ....happened 1st round when i got it in OCT & has happened 5 of 8 times i used it

been reported on skycaddie forums

so today they ring me

"So Mr Green we can do something about it"

oh great thank you

"we can give you another one but since your warranty ran out in April you'll have to pay us £89 .....& it will be a refurbished unit"

I first reported the problem to them back in October

as you can guess im not overly impressed with the outcome & shall not be renewing my plan

playing in an hour or so, hopefully will not crap out again which will probably be last time i use it

Forget the warranty, go down the 'fit for purpose' and 'saleable quality'. Current case law puts certain expectations on how long an item should last for and, whilst an own lable, cheap kettle may only be expected to last as long as the warranty, a high price, top end GPS would be expected to last consideably longer. Do not let it lie until you have a new Skycaddie on your doorstep (the Ebay it and go with a more understanding company)

If you reported the problem back in October and it's the same reoccurring fault I'd be demanding another one. Had a similar problem with the other half's laptop, reported the problem about a month before the warranty ran out, turns out if didn't fix it and by the time they'd 'fixed' and sent it back the warranty was up. Argued the case and got the problem fixed eventually. Stick to your guns and get your point across!

Have you a record of reporting the fault in oct ?? email or anything?? did you get a reply ?? i handle warranty in the motor trade & once the fault is reported (with a record) within warranty they will have to look after you .. if it was a phone call or letter with no proof of delivery/ reciept at their end, then unfortunatly you are relying on goodwill on the companys behalf, they are not legaly obliged to do anything then ..

the reply was on the forum

which the Mods take great care in cleaning up

as ive just seen this Post below i had put today has been deleted by sky caddie mods :( .....fortunately id copied it as i suspected they would delete it

"Thanks customer care for taking the time

a woman from SC called me earlier today.
also to Patrick for almost instant replies to emails
appreciated. :)

----------

wont say im happy with the outcome

exchange for another & to have to pay £89 for a refurbished unit as mine is out of warranty back in April so i was told

nice when i first reported it back in OCTOBER

cant say im going to take you up on that "wonderful" offer .....or bother renewing my plan

will also be posting this experience on the Golf Monthly Forums
so other Golfers are aware of what could possibly happen to them too

a not very Happy soon to be EX Customer "

have just left another reply
which i expect will be deleted when the admin come across it

"Thank you admin/moderator for deleting my perfectly reasonable reply

ignoring customers & deleting their feedback isnt what should be expected from a global company

even if the feedback given isnt a 100% glowing report"

10 or 15 minutes later & the above is removed too!!!

really not good enough from a company if you ask me

I would email customer service, flag it as important and with a read receipt

State your argument firmly but courteously and see if you get a reply

1. The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) says that goods should be as follows:
o Of satisfactory quality.
This means the goods must meet the standards that any reasonable person would expect, taking into account the description, the price and all other relevant information. In some circumstances, the retailer may be liable for any statement made by the manufacturer about the goods.

Satisfactory quality includes the appearance and finish of the goods, their safety and durability and whether they are free from defects (including minor faults)
o Fit for the purpose
that goods of this type are generally sold. They must also be fit for any specific or particular purpose made known to the seller at the time of the agreement.
and
"I purchased goods over a year ago and the guarantee has now expired. The trader has advised me that he does not have any responsibility for the goods. Is he right?"
No! Guarantees are extra to your legal rights. If you can show that the goods were not of satisfactory quality at the time of sale i.e. they were not as durable as it is reasonable to expect, then you may have a claim against the trader or finance company (if applicable) for compensation.

cheers guys

have just emailed SkyCaddie customer services UK

just have to wait & see what they say

guessing too late now until next week

also not holding out much hope if im being honest from how its gone already :(

I must admit, I never had any problems with Skycaddie when I had my 2.5, but it was a working model.

Any how, I sold mine because I wasn't playing enough to justify the yearly cost.

I downloaded the Sonnocaddie app for Iphone, the free trial version. You get to pick one free course. Obv, I chose my home club and it was awsome. For free it was pretty damn good. If I needed different course, I just deleted the app and re-downloaded with a new course.

Just a thought for those on a budget...

i handle warranty in the motor trade & once the fault is reported (with a record) within warranty they will have to look after you .

Few years back my 1.5 year olf Focus kept cutting out

Took it into Ford, they took 3 days to look at it and 2 days to work out it just needed the codes reset.

Had to hire a car for 5 days. Ford Warranty supposedly provided for a replacement car when warrantied defects were being fixed.

All 3 of Ford who sold me the car, Ford who carried out the repairs, and Ford who managed teh warranty refused to provide me a car because it was not clear on Day 1 that it was a warranty matter. Irrespective of the fact that when they got round to look at teh car it obviously was. All 3 parties blamed the others and said it was nothing todo with them - they were all FORD!!

No matter how many calls i made and letters to senior people they didnt care

£167 hire car costs down the drain, and Ford didnt get a look in 3 months ago when we changed car.
I have a long memory

That's SkyCaddie off my list for a GPS purchase then. I do like the way this forum is good at highlighting poor customer service so that we can collectively vote with our feet and spend our money in places where our long term custom is valued and appreciated.

Further to this,

Just Had a call from a Nice Guy at SkyCaddie UK....Thank You

Very much appreciated

(wont go into the details, just because i dont want to bore u guys)

who are now taking action to remedy this & looking into the problems i had (and dealing with it as In Warranty)

so Thank you :)

Seems my Critique of Sky caddie should have been only limited to certain areas ,as Sky Caddie UK have been nothing but Excellent & on the ball ...but frustration of the situation not being sorted on the forum led to the post here

Hopefully the solution should now resolve the problem i had

so on the subject, its now

Cheers SkyCaddie UK..... For The Great Help & Making feel like a valued Customer
