Thinking of building an indoor practice net/cage in the garage for nipper to have a go. Past few days he has been running around the garden with wiffle balls and atleast 3 have ended up in the garden of various neighbours - which is a good way to know your new neigbhours. The garage is just over 8 feet tall and decent width & depth.
Looking for ideas on where I can find a cage and a driving mat. At some point will be raising the roof of the garage to build a golf sim for myself (and Jr)

Huxley do everything you are looking for. I would start small though and grt a target net and mat to start with. He can practise firing at the target at the back of the net. Should sort yourself out with a net, and a second hand mat from a range or club for around £200

Cheapest option is don't do it. Hitting balls without seeing their true flight can wreck your swing. It's ok for a warm up but not for practising.

That's simply not true. In fact working on a swing change without seeing where the ball has gone can be beneficial.

Your don't see the 'true' flight when on the range because the balls aren't proper golf balls.

In my experience, hitting balls into a net is very misleading. You might be slicing like a good 'un but you won't see it until you hit a ball down the range or the fairway.

I don't really think not seeing the flight will affect his 'nipper' that just wants to bash a few balls without losing them to the neighbours.

At this point in time.. i want him to hit some balls without shattering the neigbhour's windows. Also cage is better than nothing as he can shank a ball well :)
Another benefit is that it gives me an incentive to clear the garage a bit (or move everything into the other corner)

Spoke to my old pro, and he may have a spare mat as our range is being refitted. Now need to get something to fire into. He is 5yr old but I could also use it if I had a chance. though I cant make full swings as the garage is not tall enuf for me.

One of my neigbhours across the road has an 'Explanar' in his garden which he rarely uses.. so might have a deal there - but not sure it will work for a Jr.

Got a range mat from my old club. We are refurb-ing the whole driving range, and so discarding the old driving mats. So gave one them a new home. It is a bit beaten up, but it will do. Never realised how heavy these things can be.. it sits on a thick pile of rubber.

Now to find some netting. I have learnt a lot in the past few days about golf nets :) Looking for a Baffle/Impact Net and cage net. The cheapest Impact nets are about 50 quid here. >> http://www.networld-sports.co.uk/online-golf-netting/golf-net-impact-panel.html

For the side nets, I might use these instead.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0010KV9ZE/ref=s9_simh_gw_p200_d0_i1

Alternatively, It might be easier to put some old curtains instead of nets if I can convince the mrs about it.

If all goes to plan, then will have a 'driving bay' for less than 100 quid
