Sorry if this is old news to anyone, but just found out that CRGC has been sold by auction to Big Dave Whelan. He's going to turn it into a training academy for the Latics. It's a shame, I used to be a member there and it was a half decent little club with some good holes...:(

On the plus side, it means that BDW won't be developing the land he owns just up the road from me. The locals have been fighting against it for a while as it was going to be on a nice piece of greenbelt land in a lovely location. A bit NIMBY I agree, but them's the breaks...

Doesnt suprise me with Whelan. The guy is a knob.

Spoken like a true noblot fan!!!:D... Whelan is a legend, and will always be...

Let me tell you a true story about Big Dave, A few years ago we were out as a whole family celebrating my old mans 60th Birthday. We were in an Italian restaurant at the DW stadium called Rigalettos. Dave was sat a few tables away with his wife and another couple. My Dad had grown up on the same street as Dave. A rundown set of terraced houses, described perfectly by George Orwell in "The Road to Wigan Pier". They were a few years apart but that didn't really matter.

My wife decided to ask Dave if he would come over and say Happy Birthday to the old man. My Dad is a big sports fan and a supporter of all things Wigan. From RL, to RU, to the Latics. Anyway, Dave came over and started chatting. Next thing, he's pulled up a chair and he's sat at the table discussing everything from where they both grew up, to his plans for Wigans sports clubs and Kids (check out the Wigan Youth Zone that he and Ainscough's built). He was there for nearly an hour. My Dad still tells people about that night now. It made his birthday, and it was a genuinely decent gesture that Dave didn't need to do. That's why I won't hear a bad word against Big Dave...

C'mon Danny, its Notlob ! :D

Charnock Richard lost a lot of members When Chorley eventually dropped the joining fee a couple of years ago.

I only played it once quite a while ago when I first started playing, I don't remember a great deal about the course other than it was pretty wet! I expect chorley and the surrounding clubs will pick up a few new members.

Ive just sent the York deposit Mate  Have you had much response?

It's been a while since I played it mate, its just a shame that its now gone, along with Standish. Like you said though, the remaining clubs should benefit. Even Whelans club has dropped the joining fee now. A few years ago, Wigan Golf Club was a funny handshake only club. People like me couldn't get in for love nor money. Now they're desperate for new blood. Sign of the times Ii suppose.

Had a few nibbles and a couple of deposits already. Should end up a good turn out for the Saturday/Sunday especially. The Friday might only attract a couple of 4 balls though. It'll still be a cracker..

Seems to be getting worse rather than better... I can't even pick up the kids without wincing. They are teenagers though! (just kidding, they're 5 and 9). I'm holding out hope for the beginning of August at the latest..
