That time of year again for me, as fixed contract is up.

Have used a couple of the comparison sites and I don't recognise most of the supplier names coming up ( Bulb, Engie, Flow, Avro..... ).

The only one coming up that I have used before is Eon and that's estimating about £40 more than the smaller ? suppliers.

So has anyone used a lesser known supplier before ?

Used a fair number of I've never heard of them before energy suppliers, over the years, without issue... In fact, the only times I've had issues, is with the household name suppliers...

Be aware that if you have or intend to have installed, a Smart Meter they are not all compatible with all power suppliers.

My supplier in conjunction with Siemens have just made the usual free offer but when I spoke to Siemens, they confirmed that the meter they would install was not compatible with all power suppliers' systems.

I am with First Utility (one of the newer medium size suppliers) and have stayed with them for over five years. They are consistently in the best prices and have provided me with good customer service.

Been with OVO now for around 4 years or more, can't fault them, excellent service, prices and customer service.

I can't doing with them digging up my garden for the new pipes and cables.

Same here, the only one I've ever had an issue with was British Gas.....even if they were the last company on earth I'd choose to go without Gas or electric.

We just change our Gas and Electricity supplier from Sainsburys over to Bulb [ Green Energy ]. Good news is we got £50 off our first bill :whoo: and Howlingale [ aka Drew ] got £50 of his next bill, just for referring us.

Very easy change over and no problems so far.
Anyone else thinking of changing over to Bulb Energy , just give me a shout, it could be worth £50 each :thup:

Been with Bulb for more than a year.. can’t fault them.. great customer service

I was going to switch to Bulb but backed off when I realised they used continuous Debit Card as a payment system. I went to Tonik Energy, just a little bit more but worth it for the peace of mind.

That concerned me when I read your original post , but they will change it to Direct Debit once you sign up, give them a call I found them very helpful.

I am about to switch. Something I should have done a long time ago. I am one of those the government has to make legislation for because I haven't switched.
Anyway over the past couple of years British Gas have continually and unjustifiably increased my monthly payment for electricity and gas to silly amounts and the end result is that I am now £550 in credit with them. Now they have reduced my monthly payment by half.
So, what is the best way to handle this? Do I switch now? ( I assume they have to give me my money back. How long does this take?) Or, do I ask for my money back now in favour of a higher monthly payment (can I do this?) and then switch?

If you are in credit with them you can ask (DEMAND !!!!!) your money back. IT IS YOUR MONEY !!!!

Previuosly I was with Scottish Power

I thought the whole point of having a regular DD amount was to build up credit during the summer to cover the higher winter payments. Not according to them, they refunded automatically if the credit level was (in their opinion ) too high.

My only hassle with them (Scottish Power) after switching is finding out the gas smart meter did not actually work and they would not let me put in my own readings to ensure a smooth switch over, still sorting it out 3 months down the line and they are now playing the blame game.

When we switched from BG to Bulb, we were in credit. I had to call up BG to ask them to credit it back. Once the switch has taken place and they close the a/c they will transfer the money. Last month i realised that I had £xxx in credit with Bulb. I pay by DD, so emailed them, and they have now stopped the DD for a quarter till the credit comes down.. no quibbles.
