Championship Courses

There is the Brabazon, strictly not my everyday course but I get 3 rounds a year on it for free. I believe it may have hosted a Ryder cup or 2 ;)

Then the PGA, its had a few champions tour events on it and is over 7000 YARDS long.

The Derby is fun but its just a regular 6100 yarder and won't be hosting any big events lol

We have just held the Hampshire County Championships for men, and will shortly be holding the ladies as well. Might have something to do with it being our Centenary. We held Openn qualifying for five years but that is about it I think.

We do hold a big amateur competition, Selbourne Salver, which runs in conjunction with the Hampshire Hog at North Hants. Justin Rose played it it a few times but never won at Blackmoor. What ever happened to him ?;)

Both of ours are championship courses, the Rosemount was where Greg Norman’s had his first European Tour victory in the 1977 Martini event. We also have the Junior Ryder Cup next year.

Lansdowne held the Scottish Amateur Strokeplay and PGA Sprint series in 2011 amongst others.

Guess it all depends what you consider a 'Championship' I suppose. I'm playing in the Logan Trophy in a few weeks with Robobum, he checked out the course last week and it doesn't look up to much yet it's hosting a national event. As for low end Pro events, some of them are played on pretty dire courses.

Just looked at home course and the other three I play regularly and all list themselves as Championship courses (with a couple listing designers like Ernie Els and Bernhard Langer, although not sure how much they would actually be involved but maybe I do them a disservice)

There does always seem to be some kind of tournament on at one of the four like the Euro Seniors tour, international junior events & even Allianz & European tour players popping over for Opens & Pro-Ams etc

But I've often wondered how a course would earn the tag Championship (I thought there was a USGA standard in this though)

My definition of a championship course is one that has held a main male or female National or County championship.

Open qualifiers, seniors, non EPGA events don't count.
[Mind you the Pro's play at quite a few middens when the clubs pays to host the event]

Mine is not a championship course, and yet it regularly holds the men's and ladies herts county championship, and the 5 counties championship.

Don't forget that last year it also hosted the prestigious PieMan RickG Birthday Championship!!
