CG 7 Black pearl irons.

Just a general enquiry.
My Benross irons are in need of new grips and are about 12 years old and I could get these clubs for about the same price.
I am recovering from a hernia op and cannot try them with a full swing.
Thanks for your interest.

I think they're really good. I'm considering getting some new shinies, but only because I want to, not because there is anything wrong with the CG7s.

The black pearl has faded a lot through use, but I like the look of well used irons.

I wouldn't say they are super forgiving, in the sense that a super game improvement club is. I would say that you can feel when you hit a good one, and you can feel when you don't, but they are forgiving in the sense that the result with small misses is not disastrous. That's exactly what I want from a club, I learn by knowing when I haven't caught the middle and these provide that feedback.

£80 is a bargain if they're in good nick. The only thing I would say though, is that I think the club was released around 2009, so the tech in them is not new. Personally, that doesn't matter to me, but I thought it worth mentioning.

Do the 7's have a smaller head than the 16's? I wonder if the 16's are more game improvers?

The CG16 replaced the CG7. I only know this because when I bought the CG7's new, Cleveland had a crazy option where I could upgrade to the next release model absolutely FREE. Yes Free so within the space of 15 months I had new irons for zip cost.

In effect they are similar clubs as you would expect from a replacement model. Both heads had the same shape and were designed for game improvement. However what they did do was strengthen the lofts, so I had to buy a gap wedge.
I was very happy with my CG7's and thought the replacement model would have to be good, otherwise I wouldn't have upgraded. I still love my CG16's, but will probably change next year as I've had them now for 6 years and fancy a change.
The CG7's are a great club so you won't regret it.
