Anyone play here recently?

I played it twice last summer and hated it. The fairways were like light rough, and the rough was about 3 foot deep. It's only saving grace was that it was cheap - £8 a round.

It's a shame as the layout was good, but it seemed to be going to the dogs.

Anyway, noticed in the latest edition of the free Today's Golfer magazine that it has a new head greenkeeper (internal appointee), and there was talk of investment in new machinery etc.

Just wondering if it is now on the way back up?

Family that bought it a few years back don't come from a golfing background and I'm pretty sure they don't even play themselves. They own a few hotels and bars around the area.

I've not played it in a while but heard nothing but bad things about it.

Is the driving range any cop? Working in the area and staying in Jesmond a few nights a week.

Could do with making productive use of the evenings and hitting some balls

The range is pretty dreadful as well. The balls must be about 20 years old.

When I went, there was 1 other guy there. Compare that to Parklands which must have twice as many bays, and is always pretty busy.

might pop down and try there. It's only 5 minutes additional travelling time for me compared to Parklands.

Parklands is ok, but you can get some clowns there, and one of the pro's there gets on my wick:angry:
It's decent mate and reasonably quiet at certain times, never had to wait for a bay.

4 lads from Hadrian Park came to our course, Heworth, in November. Left because it's so bad and just shoot through Tyne Tunnel. 1 said to me that the fairways are like thick rough.
George Washington is on my doorstep, but even though the range has been updated, I prefer Sunderland. The problem with Washington is the driving range slopes downhill which I find deceptive, also they use those horrible yellow range balls

It was terrible when I played it last summer. I was hoping it might have improved, obviously not.

I thought it was better when I played in in September last year. The problem as everyone has said is that the owners knew bugger all about golf! That, and the fact there had been no investment for the last 20 years!

its a shame because it's a reasonable course and I really like the back 9.

hopefully the new owners will sort it out and spend some well needed cash.

Has it been sold? I thought it was still owned by the pub chain who bought it from the council 7 or 8 years ago.
