Has anyone tried one, or use one now.

I'm just interested in what the supposed effect of them is, compared to traditional heel shafted ones.

Stupidly, I picked up a Ping Piper C yesterday and had a little swish with it and it felt really nice. Now I'm trying to find reasons why I shouldn't go and buy one!

Thanks.

Centre shafted putters are almost always face balanced - which is good for the Straight Back Straight Through style.

They are also often Mallets which some folk prefer too.

I have a centre-shafted mallet, so I'm a fan! Tried other styles, but always go back to this style (and this particular putter).

Fragger and CVG both use Centre shafters but they are more blade like - Rife and Odyssey.
I've had swishes with them and although they seem to work ok I don't like the look.

But if it works for you Gary - it must be time you bought another putter.....

Tried one once after thinking it felt nice in the shop but couldn't get on with it. Didn't suit my eye, never got used to seeing the shaft join the head by the ball, it looked wrong and I always had the feeling that the shaft seemed to be in the way of the ball (sounds odd but there you go).

The #7 I'm using works pretty well at the moment, but you know the grass looks mighty green over there.......

It's at least 6 weeks since my last putter purchase - which will be in the F/S section soon :o

Like Foxholer said you need to find out what stroke you have to get the best putter for your stroke I'm straight back and through and was fitted for a odyssey 2 ball which suits me fine and its only 34" and I'm 6ft 3. The ping web site give you a list of putters that suit the different types of stroke.

hi,had a cs putter ,which seemed ok for a while, changed to traditional and putting has improved a lot.If you feel it is working for you and gives you confidence ,go with it.

I know what stroke I am due to the iPing app. Slight arc it says - very consistently between 4° & 5°. I always used to use putters recommended for a slight arc like an Anser but I couldn't stop the darn thing from wobbling when taking it back so was recommended to try a face balanced, which I putt much better with.

Maybe I am one of the exceptions to the rule?

Pretty sure they advise centre shafted if you hit a lot of putts out of the toe and/or for an arc stroke

Personally think it just looks wrong to the eye and have never been able to use one successfully, like anything though Gary worth a try to see if it works

I have a centre shafted Scotty red X Gary, its been in my bag a long time and i don't plan on replacing it any time soon.
Its very stable, very forgiving on off centre putts, the face is just soft enough, and its a nice weight.
I struggled with various anser type putters, then bought a centre shafted two ball which i loved, but it was hard to judge long putts with (may have been the face softness ?). Had a go with a mates red X and i was smitten.

Hmm, I did think about the Red-X. They do lots of different versions don't they, do you know which one(s) are centre shafted?

Our pro shop is a Ping stockist. I may ask to have a go with the Piper at the weekend if he has one in.

The Red X2 is the centre shafted Red X putter. I would try it, and also try one of the new golos, either the Golo S or S5 (Smaller head).

I have a tour welded centre shafted fastback and love it, have a S5 for the winter.
